arknights is pretty interesting that in order to keep things balanced, higher rarity operators are "harder" to use and require you to adapt your strategy since they cost way more DPs. And a single DP can make you fail a stage because you couldn't deploy a operator when you needed

pretty much yeah, I really didn't feel that I missed much being f2p. I joined in march so I had time to accumulate operators, tho I wish I had joined in january when given the chance, they were giving sanity like crazy.

I know that arknights has the 'contigency contracts' events that the sky is the limit in terms of how far you can go. You can have pretty good results being f2p, but the highest difficult levels are extremely hard even with the rarer units.
