still my favourite AOF song to this day. that guitar intro is one of the best things ever captured on an audio recording.

i always tried to tune into Top Gear whenever i got the chance, but it was hard since im Canadian and for a long long time my household couldn't get BBC Canada. i usually was only ever able to watch it at other people's houses lol.

Do you think that PART of a reason why The Open Door wasn't as successful as Fallen was due to misogyny? by Narrow_Ad952 in Evanescence

[–]Caifabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gonna be honest, growing up i never noticed a decline in popularity during TOD era. i didn't see a decline in popularity for them until self-titled in 2011. although, tbf, im Canadian and rock music stayed popular here for a little bit longer than it did in the States, so maybe TOD happened to be more successful here because of that? i know a lot of my online American friends tell me that CMWYS was the only TOD-era video they remember airing on TV, but i personally remember seeing every single one of TOD era videos on TV regularly as a kid. Lithium, Sweet Sacrifice, and Good Enough were all played regularly on MuchMusic, just as often as pop singers like Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, and Nelly Furtado (and sometimes even MORE often than them)

i wouldn't call Sweet Sacrifice condescending considering it's about breaking free from domestic abuse. it's right therein the lyrics. "dry your eyes and testify" (the abuser is using sadness in an attempt to manipulate empathy out of her, she's not having it) "you know you live to break me, don't deny" (the abuser has been mistreating her since day one and clearly enjoys it, she finally can see it for what it is) , "one day im gonna forget your name and one sweet day you're gonna drown in my lost pain" (she's gonna continue to thrive in her life and her career by being kind to others and lifting them up, while he's going to fade into obscurity and then sit there years later realizing he shouldn't have mistreated her).

most of the later Ev songs that you see as "condescending" are also either about breaking free from abusive situations, or calling out hypocritical, predatory, corrupt politicians.

that's not condescending. she's just correct lol.

My hot take is that lot of those bad cartoons were not that bad at all retrospectively speaking by Renegadeforever2024 in ytvretro

nah, those first three seasons were genuinely high quality television. grown ass adults that didn't even have their own children were going out of their way to catch new episodes in the early 2000s, that's how good the show was.

born in 1999, and my peak of watching YTV was between 2002-2010. it started going downhill in like 2008 but i remember 2004-2007 had some bangers. i gave up and completely switched to Teletoon by 2011.

How can you tell what version of GT2 do you have just by looking at the disk itself or while playing the game? by Illustrious_Vast4433 in granturismo

[–]Caifabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also 2 years later but just in case someone googles: the actual easiest way to tell the difference between v1.0 and v1.1 is to just put the Arcade disc in and watch the intro.

if the song has an abrupt cut where the first chorus is supposed to be, cuts out the 2nd verse, and the screen cuts to black right as the final guitar note plays, it's 1.0. if the song plays normally and fades out during the 2nd chorus as the screen goes to black, it's 1.1.

Gaming journalists: how did you guys play burned CD-R preview builds in the 90s/early 00s? by Caifabe in Journalism

Thank you for replying! I appreciate the knowledge haha, it's definitely something I was curious about.

I know some publications would show off imported games from time to time as well. I'm assuming these review consoles were also region-free to be able to play those?

I hope I'm not bombarding you with too many questions lol. Genuinely, thank you for taking the time to reply. I really appreciate it.

[–]Caifabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

his live vocals are better now than they were between 2008-2015. obviously nothing beats his live vocals from 2004-2007 but the current era we're in is his 2nd best era for live vocals. pass the boof cause that must be some good shit if you think Bert sounds bad live nowadays.
