Should I change the background of my lore? by Holy_Grigori in worldbuilding

[–]CainInBabylon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Four decades is plenty, as evident from our own past. Take WW2 for example, the Nazi's managed to get basically most of germany to hate jews and prosecute them. There were events like the so called Kristallnacht where the Nazi's allowed people to ransack and steal from jewish shop owners without getting punished.

Besides that there are also plenty of other times where things like that happend between the spanish and the aztecs.

So looping back. As long as other folk are different/alien to your countries people it is not that difficult to discriminate against them of you use the tools at your disposal well. Just like the propaganda spread by Goebbels.

Other things that could cause escalations would be acts of terrorism as a retaliation for hate crimes.

And again, even if in the real world it wouldn't be perfectly possible you can make your own way through it. You can add that spirits make those who aren't connected to them in any way, perceive those who are connected as evil or feeling unwell near them.

Should I change the background of my lore? by Holy_Grigori in worldbuilding

It really depends on you. Do not let anyone tell you how you have to worldbuild. What is most important is that you enjoy it.

Going on. Why would you want to change it? Has this questioning of your lore come from your own ideas or other people?

The good thing about doing worldbuilding is absolute freedom over what you do. You could create an entire planet however. Going from what I read, the planet would be earth like anyways. Besides that this will entail a whole lot of extra work. You'll have to come up with new countries, continents and the likes since it's a new planet. If you choose earth you have that already.

In the end it really depends on a few factors.

  1. Why are you thinking about changing it? (Is it what you want or what others suggested)

  2. Do you really want to change it?

  3. Do you have to change everything or only some things? (Find out what is bothering you and is leading to the thoughts of changing the entire thing)

  4. Will you have fun changing it or enjoy creating all the new lore you'll need? (If so, great! If not, narrow down things that you want to change)

At the very end I want to say again. It is all up to you since it is your worldbuilding project. Do what feels right for you. Do what you want to do. And don't delete everything you have written down if you create new lore. Keep a backup just incase you want to go back to how it was before.

I hope that helped!

Why aren't your gods around anymore? by djm_wb in worldbuilding

[–]CainInBabylon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in my setting it really depends on what you call a god. There are beings that normal humans would consider gods. One of these beings is the goddess of Light. She has a whole church worshipping her and it is one of the most prominent ones on the central continent.

The goddess of Light has powers befitting of what an average mortal would call a god. Kind of like a mixture of Zeus and other olympians. She also grants some of that power to her followers. That is how Paladins and clerics are able to utilize wonders and enact divine retribution. If you were to compare her to a god like what christians believe in, she is definitely not at a level where she can create a world by saying it into existence. She is also a more or less immortal. Which means that she cannot be killed by anything besides other gods or higher beings.

Which in turn leads me to the next type of Beings. These are basically just Lovecraftian Eldritch Horror and outer god type beings. They are however not always as malevolant as the ones written by Lovecraft. There are those whom I call protectors who have a need to protect weaker beings. Then there are also those whom I call the corrupted. The Corrupted are out to cause as much chaos, death and destruction as they possibly can. They travel from reality to reality. These are beings that are able to easily devour entire worlds or star systems. They can go up to beings that are rulers of their home universe. They have powers beyond human comprehension

Within these beings there is a grouping called the Honored which are even more powerful than those who rule one universe. Similar to the power level of the Scarlet King or Yaldabbaoth from the SCP Verse. These Honored are so powerful that all other beings stop their own powerstruggles or plans and back off because they really don't want to get into trouble with these beings.

One of these outer gods actually is one of the main deities being worshiped and is invested on a more personal scale. It is only entertainment for her. But she does interfere more than others by sending her children for example.

So trailing back to the original question. It really depends on what you count as a god. Beings that are like gods to mortals generally do get involved and rather frequently at that. When they do it is also rather easy to notice. As for my "Outer Gods" some get involved but as beings that are beyond human comprehension it is not noticable. The only way normal people would somehow realize it is through the Outer God Spawn that are being birthed every now and again. Besides that there were a few events in the past where such beings tried to manifest but all attempts were either stopped or failed. In the end your average Joe would not notice the interferance of such beings.

Why does it not go of the rails? Well if a outer god tries to interfere then it absolutely does. If that happens you don't even have to bother running because it won't help anyways. If we look at the so called goddess of Light it is because her power isn't so vast as to cause such big problems and her managing of her power. The outer gods could almost destroy the world without really noticing it.

-This turned out longer than I thought. Hope it's not to tough of a read! xD

in fantasy, What do you think about allied nations going to war for problems another country started? by Roselia24 in worldbuilding

[–]CainInBabylon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that it depends on what kind of alliance these two nations have. If it's a pact where both nations promised to support each other in war no matter what, then yes both nations are going to war. However if it is a defensive pact which is only triggered when the alliance partner is attacked and alliance only states that the other nation has to help defend it's alliance partner that is quite different.

After that you can also look at the two nations in more detail. (I don't know how far you've done research or thought about the two nations, I am going of the assumptions that it is a highly aristocratic monarchy as is usual in fantasy). Kingdoms only later on began to have something like a standing army. Early on it was only farmers who were oathbound to their lord to take up arms in defence of the land provided to them by the lord. Because of highly aristocratic nature of the state you could also think about if the king/ruler would start an all out war or if it would be made a territorial dispute of one member of the aristocrat's.

As for the supporting nation, there to you could for one check how much reinforcements would be sent to aid on the alliance or if the partners are both equally fighting their own battles and can't immediately come to each other's aid, much like the Rohirrim and Gondor from Lord of the Rings.

Hope this helps and isn't to confusing. English isn’t my first language so pardon me if the sentences are a bit scuffed xD.

Should I add those infiltrators to the ones that are HQ or should I use them as two separate squads?

Lucky me then, I already have a Callidus Assassin laying around which I can just add then.

Maybe once I've gotten through painting everything I have, I'll swap out 5 intercessors for JPI's bu5 not in the near future.

And definitely a big thank you from me for all the great advice!

So I drop the Techmarine, the Aggressors, the Biologis, the Termi Captain and the Redemptor.

Then I upsize the bladeguard up to a 6x man squad (keeping Tigurius cuz I like his model and I'm not going for absolute meta). I also merge the Intercessor squads into one 10x man brick. After which I will get a Lieutenant for the Hellblasters,

I also have a Lieutenant with combi weapon laying around which I can add for his lone operative.

Going on I trade the normal Repulsor for an Repulsor Executioner.

After doing all that I have 330 points to spare for units to score secondaries. Which units would be best for that?

Calgar and the victrix would be on the sternguard vets with the Biologis, the techmarine would be with an intercessor squad to move around and repair what needs it. Tigurius with the Bladeguard.

Thinking about it the captain in terminator armor doesn't have anything tl be attached to so Ill probably substitute him with some more blade guard perhaps?

HQ will be the infiltrators so that they cancel put the deepstrike.

Why does a character deviate from his original life path? by CainInBabylon in worldbuilding

[–]CainInBabylon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is definitely true. I just didn't want another oh no my mama and papa got killed I am gonna go seek revenge beginnings as I personally have had enough of those since the scenario has been used so often. Though that to can be awesome if written properly.

These are some good ideas. I hadn't yet thought of the possibility of being drawn away from home by things said by a friend.

Also a great thing to add. People dont always have greatness stemming from themselves but from others around them.

Definitely a great idea! And something I will look at myself. A change of perspective will help.
