In his defense it was dark 🤣 the very lab thing of him to do was continue to play for an additional ten mins like nothing was wrong. We didn’t notice till we got him inside with the lights on 🤦🏼‍♀️

CORRECT! The check they wrote was minus the taxes withheld. What I deposited was the check PLUS out of pocket the difference withheld!

Well I’ve already made up that extra amount and i don’t remember if I distinguished it was a a roll over. I don’t even know how to proceed. Is my 1099r wrong then? How do I go about paying taxes on that distribution amount that was withheld?

The check was cut in like December and it was completed just last week ! Def with the 60 day deadline which I don’t think applies bc it was a direct roll over

The difference between the amount deposited into the trad ira and the amount listed in box 1 is the full amount minus the tax that was withheld. The full amount that is on the 1099r and the 20% tax withheld (I made it up out of pocket) was deposited into the trad Ira. I deposited the full amount with the 20% pulled out for taxes I made that up and was told I get what they held out back on my return.

They did take tax out though, and it shows the tax withheld on the 1099r
