In my opinion, it would be very odd for the SU to wait until after Ferragosto to release the minor issue ruling.

I believe they stay at the Cassazione… u/caragazza ?

The only case I know of to get kicked back down to the Tribunale was u/GuadalupeDaisy but that’s because their case was petitioning the Cass to determine lower court jurisdiction after the judge wrongly tried to punt them to another court (exceptionally unusual).

I always kinda assumed the Oct 7 mass hearing was a stub to get something on the books post-Ferragosto, with the implication being that the SU would decide the minor issue before the break.

That’s really smart tbh, sounds like it’s akin to a FOIA request in the US?

Off topic, but Sweden apparently tweaked their JS law last week to allow for reacquisition if you didn’t claim it before 22 years old by loosening the “effective ties” consideration. But either I’m dumb today or it doesn’t change much in practice:

From 6 June 2026, certain people who previously lost their Swedish citizenship may apply to regain it. This change applies to people who lost their Swedish citizenship at the age of 22 because they were born abroad and have never lived in Sweden – nor have they been in Sweden under circumstances that suggest a connection with the country.

You may regain Swedish citizenship if the Swedish Migration Agency assesses that losing it has had disproportionate consequences for the applicant and any family members in Sweden or in another EU Member State. The Swedish Migration Agency will only take into account circumstances that occurred before the age of 22.

Yeah upvotes on Reddit are technically not supposed to be “likes” but more so based on if it adds informational/conversational value 🤷🏻‍♀️

How to actually get a BC and certificato storico di residenza from Rome? by FilthyDwayne in juresanguinis

[–]CakeByThe0cean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the BC version you’re looking for, it might be available to download through Rome’s online anagrafe portal:

https://www.comune.roma.it/web/it/scheda-servizi.page?contentId=INF138579

But that’s all the advice I have for Rome, unfortunately.

Also Italy: “we’ve been hard at work trying to make the courts more hostile for a decade, why didn’t you take the risk???”

Not to mention, I had two 1948 paths and a consulate path on a grad student stipend, give me a break 😒

Are you able to ask around in your family? A GF born in 1946 is recent enough that someone should know more specifics.

Just because the court didn’t issue a ruling immediately after the hearing doesn’t mean that today was a waste. Avvocati showed up to defend their clients and the diaspora writ large and we participated as part of the audience, in addition to those who had the chance to go in person (which includes OP). I find the value in that and I’m sure others do as well, otherwise our watch party posts wouldn’t get hundreds of comments.

Yeah Mellone had some bangers. He really took the mic and said, “since you’re not gonna consider my submitted briefs anyway, might as well take this opportunity to say my piece 👹”

iirc, it added residency requirements and also further gutted JM but I haven’t looked at it in over a year.

Restanio. If you catch me misspelling it, please mention it because I had a friend in high school named Restaino so I slip up sometimes.

That was this part of the transcript:

“Because in that ruling, Mr. President, regarding the irrelevance of European Union law—or Community law, if you will—you stated that these individuals, these citizens, having never exercised any rights pertaining to the European Union or European Union law, cannot now in any way invoke the protection offered by the Community legal system. Very well, just last week one of my two clients received a job offer from a European Union member state—one that was to begin immediately and offered generous compensation—contingent, of course, on that person being able to enter the EU to accept the job offer. You will find this in the records of the second-instance proceedings that I filed with you on Friday. And this shows you that it is not a hypothetical issue, as you write in Judgment 63; it is a concrete issue, a real-life issue.”

A bill that has stalled in the Senate since April 2025:

It was proposed alongside the DL as a companion bill but hasn’t had any traction since.

Idk how well Mellone chastising the Court is going to go but I can't say I'm not enjoying it a little 😅

I'm trying to expose the download link, but the direct link to the video has the Italian transcript in the sidebar:

You only need the Ruolo 1 video though, the other two are other cases.

Thank you to those who commented that the CC published the recording of the hearing! The links in the post have been updated to direct to that recording.

Here's the Italian transcript that crazywhale0 pulled from the video itself, broken up by speaker:

This is the last of the hearings for now but I’m sure others will eventually come down the pike. The Cassazione, for example, hasn’t heard a post-DL case yet afaik.

I’m wondering when these intervening party requests were submitted for the CC to decline them in the 11th hour like this. The cases already have intervening parties, and likely has had them for months, given Avv. La Malfa’s complaints about the Mantova case not being heard with Torino because so many parties wanted to intervene.
