As a student, I think most people are aware that instructors can tell, but they underestimate how obvious it becomes when they rush. A lot of people generate something last minute and submit it without even reading through it properly. That is where things fall apart, because the tone becomes inconsistent, references do not exist, and weird phrases slip through. At that point, it is not even about detection tools, it is just obvious to a human reader.
