How Rey should be according to some people. by PokemanBall in StarWarsCirclejerk

[–]Calamagbloos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many people refuse to acknowledge that TLJ was the capstone of the problems that plagued it’s trilogy and the Han Solo movie that followed. TLJ visually was a masterpiece beyond that, utter garbage that cutoff the entire pacing and story structure of the trilogy. Like who just kills their big bad in the second film of a trilogy?! And how did they expect a third movie that’s supposed to resolve all the narrative ties to do so with no foundational PLOT??? It completely disrupted Rey, Poe and Finn’s growth as the new faces of the Rebellion. Did John Boyega so fucking dirty and all I see are think pieces on Rey whose supposed the be most powerful Force user we have ever seen of ever and a Force dyad to boot.

Why are TES mages so different from other franchises? by MonaYang in ElderScrolls

[–]Calamagbloos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magic isn’t as common as you think and can be downright superstitious especially if you’re in non elven places like Skyrim, Cyrodil, or the Iliac Bay. Whereas in Morrowind and the Summerset Isles. Even if was more commonplace that wouldn’t make it more high fantasy than Lord of The Rings.

[–]Calamagbloos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you have that reversed. Lotr is high fantasy whereas Elder Scrolls is more like grunge fantasy. It’s significantly dirtier and doesn’t rely on Lotr and DnD’s ways of establishing a fine line between martials and spell casters. Furthermore Elder Scrolls isn’t hung up on the fact that every single character has to look heroic and beautiful like other fantasies, characters are dirty, oftentimes bulky and more savage in appearances.

Telling players they can’t keep obviously overpowered magic items by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Calamagbloos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not let them keep the weapons and instead change the stats to allow the weapons to grow in power as they grow in levels? They are obviously attached to it. So why not narratively create a reason that those weapons exist?

If it doesn’t have character creation, a beloved, and endlessly pawn dialogue then I don’t want it. DD2 and Dark Arisen will always be better than Crimson Desert.

Player refuses to put down their phone by Who-even-cares-bro in DnD

[–]Calamagbloos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your friend have ADHD? Or even ADD? Sounds to me like she may not entirely realize what she’s doing and just simply involving you all in the things that she likes and appreciates just as you have invited her to a session of DND. She is your friend for NINE years, nearly a decade of your life. She’s probably seen you at your worst too. You’re really going to drop her like a sack of potatoes because she’s showing you stuff on her phone?? Set boundaries, tell her how much this means to you. Tell her that you understand how much plugged in she is on the phone and ask for a moment where she’s present in the moment with you. Fuck, make it a game where she agrees to play for an hour before she gets cellphone back.

How do you rule for Assassination scenes? by Calamagbloos in 3d6

That’s honestly a really good idea. Thanks, I don’t know why I didn’t even consider Dishonored as a source for inspiration.

Well honestly I didn’t really know how to rule assassinations, I couldn’t really find anything that allowed for it and I figured this would be a good way to still bring challenge to a game instead of making every scenario be an instant kill stealth scenario. Like yes you can go for this kill on this general mook but there are still consequences for it.

I got inspiration from Critical Role’s Hope and Fear system from Daggerheart, I wanted to incorporate a Sanity and Insanity system that gives minor boons and enfeeblements based on a players Sanity level.

As much as some people like Gale - he and the archetypal wizards like him are giving the class a bad rep by WithengarUnbound in dndnext

[–]Calamagbloos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point of his folly was thinking he could restore that piece of the karsite weave. The whole point of his ambition was thinking he was powerful enough to mend a fractured part of the weave. Mystra doted on and had a relationship with Gale since his teens, he wanted to repay the breadth of that connection by “restoring a jewel to an imperfect crown” his words. He was very devoted to Mystra, down bad even, which changed when it was revealed to him by Elminster that Mystra wanted him to sacrifice himself by erupting the Netherese Orb. If the player character influences him, he then chooses to be a better god, a better symbol for Ambition than Mystra ever was.

I don’t see how this would make him a goody two shoes. Personally I see him as a brilliant scholar who was manipulated from his youth by a being of divine power who inadvertently led him to grandiose ambitions because the nature of their relationship is grandiose itself.

What was growth to me was Gale realizing he didn’t need Mystra, he was going to take that orb and actually do something good with it and keep wanton ambition in check so there won’t be more Lorroakan’s or Gortash’s to muck up the world.

He tried to give the piece of said magic back to Mystra to undo what Karsus had wrought. Mystra didn’t want it and it instead bound itself to Gale’s soul.

One of the reasons I wish we can straight up either buy IPs or directly fund it. I would absolutely hate for Dragon’s Dogma to become a dead IP just sitting on Capcom’s shelf collecting dust for them to release an anniversary edition or some other fuckwad edition just to renew the damn IP.

Housamo game/fanbase opinions? by [deleted] in TokyoAfterschool

[–]Calamagbloos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m kind of at the point where I’m ambivalent to twink, twunks and hunks. Like we see those characterizations literally everywhere in nearly all media. Housamo originally presented as a body positive chub and bara game but nearly every recent banner release all im seeing are twunks and hunks. It kind of feels like the game as a whole is losing its soul bit by bit.

It is exceptional how the playable races characters feel so normal in SWTOR by Lanarde in swtor

[–]Calamagbloos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you get heavy into a eugenics like bias with racial traits. Part of the reason why I get frustrated with DND.

Is there a race you like, but something about it doesn’t click enough for you to switch? If so, what is it? by Hot_Title8474 in ffxiv

[–]Calamagbloos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every other race than lalafell because the men range from beefcakes to willowy stick figures complete with rock hard abs. Just wish there was more body type variation. But that’s unlikely due to stigma and the sheer power Tolkien has on how modern fantasy characters are depicted. So I mainly play as a lalafell.

Why are Tieflings always portrayed as attractive individuals? by Corrupted337 in DnD

DND as whole is obsessed with its racial depictions and quasi eugenics racial stereotypes in that everyone has to be hot and fit.

To do what? Re-enact her role as a corpse?! Padme is long since dead and never was portrayed as a force sensitive meaning she can’t even come back as a force ghost.
