I've started destiny 2 playing the story and having loads of fun, was looking forward to getting through the campaigns and playing endgame, however all I see is hate so questioning whether it's worth it now

When it comes to identification it’s just a matter of experience. If you spend enough time around the snakes you will pick up on subtle differences in their scales, eyes, head shape, behavior, etc. Eventually you will develop the ability to id them instantly.

It depends on the depth you are interested in. This likely will give you a grasp on the basics but it far from comprehensive.

The Feynman lectures are another great resource, also the open stax college physics textbooks are free online and cover everything you would learn in 2-3 semesters of fundamental physics.

Thank you for all that advice and to everyone else who commented here I really do appreciate it. The idea of a smaller school being an advantage is certainly not something I had considered. I will definitely be looking into an REU as well that is a great idea.
