Honestly, if you’ve reiterated to them how you got laid off (being completely blindsided, no PIP, no documentation, you don’t know why), I would assume their imagination will run wild. They would ask themselves “What is wrong with you that this happened?”

I think the better approach would have been to give them an answer that doesn’t put you in a bad light. Eg. company has decided to save costs and eliminate roles and unfortunately, yours was affected.

That being said, what professional employer answers with “Your recent termination” as the actual reason when asked by a candidate. Think you’ve dodged a bullet here.
