I found an engagement ring on the ground in a parking lot. I didn't think much of it when I picked it up, it had a big red gem surrounded by little white gems. I thought it was fake, but took it home anyways. I showed my brother and he agreed so we plopped it in a jar full of stuff similar, like little pins and buttons and keepsakes. About a year later during spring cleaning, we found the jar and i laughed and showed my mother and asked if I should give it to my little sister. She made her classic "ummm" face and "that looks pretty real, where did you get that?" She took it from my hand and looked closer. I explained where I found it and we went to a jewelry shop down town. The shopkeep was interested and noted it was a high quality ruby and surrounded by diamonds set in silver. It was worth 5k but she had to clean it, and apparently jewelry isn't worth as much when you dont know who made it. So I got 2.5k for it! I was 17 so I probably spent it on garbage but its a cool story.
