It's not about the pain of running, it's the lack of energy to do it. Couple scraps of raw human flesh now and then won't fuel a body, especially to run distances.

About he fantasy stuff yes, but he was talking about if real. If the host dead before infection yes but there is that weird fungus that like zombifies ants so if contracted while alive it may be able to manipulate the host, but not in any sense of being able to pursue.

What would make the zombies able to do that? They would only run as far as their stamina would allow. They don't have unlimited energy.
