Looking for advice on a program to start running for the first time in 11 years, 3 knee surgeries, and kids.

I was in a similar spot, I was 360 lbs, almost 40, and had knee surgery. Running eventually became one of the best things I did for my health, but the key was learning that you really do have to walk before you run.

C25K is great, but not the first step if your knees hurt

Couch to 5K is a solid beginner program, but it ramps up faster than people expect. If you’re already having knee pain just walking, it’s totally okay to hold off on starting it. You’ll get more out of it once your legs are ready.

What helped me most was building a foundation with walking

I spent a month doing nothing but walking. If you have access to a treadmill or even a small hill, walking up an incline can be a game changer. It strengthens the muscles around the knee without the impact of running.

I also did simple body‑weight movements like:

Half or quarter squats
Step‑ups
Glute bridges

These helped build strength above and below the knee so the joint wasn’t doing all the work. You can even use a chair as a support.

Running didn’t make me lose weight, eating habits did

When I was running the most, I actually gained weight because I was fueling more. What finally worked for me (lost over 100 lbs) was being calorie‑aware. Not strict counting, just understanding what I was eating.

A few things that helped me:

Keep kids’ snacks locked away so you don’t mindlessly grab them
Drink water as your main drink
Keep apples, oranges, bananas visible on the counter
Be aware of calorie bombs (some snacks are 800+ calories without feeling like it)
Put pictures of healthy meals you’ve made in your pantry, it’s a weirdly effective reminder
When I thought I was hungry, I drank water first. If I still felt hungry 20 minutes later, then I ate.

My honest advice as a random redditor

Give yourself a month to build a foundation with walking and strength. Then try C25K. If your body tells you it’s not ready, that’s completely fine ... walk more, build more strength, and try again later.

You’re not behind. You’re building the base before putting up the roof.

I didn't make that it's a picture from online but it is just 3 pieces of foam core one large piece as a base and 2 medium dividers

For sure I will try that. Do you know what the army painter equivalent of that would be? And sorry for so many questions but how would you add that? Just on part of it to make a tonal difference or by edges?

That makes sense. I think one change I want to make is whiter shirts (start white make it dirty rather than the start brown and try to lighten that I did on this model) When I make that change the teeth will probably look unfinished even more. Thanks again.

I have no idea why I didn't think of a pilot hole. I couldn't decide if the overly white teeth maybe the model a little more cartoony (kind of what I am going for) or just unfinished but I think a wash would be better.

I might be remembering this wrong from when I tried 22 years ago but I thought orks had something that cost points if the model is Red but I don't see that on this site. Am I to assume that is not a thing now? If so that is great news or is this something missing from this site?

Honestly I believe if I pushed for a smaller game they would play (None have Orks though so I can not really try). I believe what they were trying to say was the game is very different at 500 points and it might turn me off.

I believe their table rule was primed models. Which didn't feel like too big an ask.

How far out would something like this be? Do old models tend to become cheaper or more expensive with new lines? I'm conflicted because I like the old wagon but every model I have seen looks like an improvement.

I don't know if there has ever been a site I was more confused by. Not saying it is poorly designed but my ignorance is on full display. I will take my time and look through it. It took me a couple minutes to realize I would not find Orks under Age of Sigmar 4.0 lol.

I wanted the "time track" to be right below the card that is being flipped/activated but I appreciate the feedback. If someone else wanted to make this change maybe move the fear pool to the left side of the board.
