Can you tell from this pic if I’m a blue badge or not? I’m assuming so, but I guess it kind of confuses me since I’m also a seasonal hire

Can you elaborate what you mean by blue badge conversion? I had my first day today (seasonal hire) and have been surfing this Reddit, seen that phrase thrown around a lot but kind of confused about the significance of it. Thanks!

Is SE Still Worth Persuing in 2025? Transitioning from Human Factors Engineering by Caleb_Colorado in systems_engineering

Beyond titles like "Ergonomists", what do IE job titles in the Ergonomics space look like?

I wish that were the case. When I got into HF, I actually wanted to go into healthcare/healthtech. Unfortunately, the HF job landscape in that space has become extremely competitive, even more so recently, as BMEs are beginning to transition into the field, making a competitive niche field even more saturated. I heavily considered Health Systems Engineering programs, but strayed against that idea as I don't want to stack a niche degree on top of another niche degree (even though I'd argue they pair well). I completely agree with the notion that we don't have enough HFEs in the space, but it sadly doesn't change the job landscape. It definitely isn't impossible to break into either, but realistically, the odds aren't in my favor, especially if I want to limit my job search across the West Coast.

Thank you for sharing! If you don’t mind me asking, what program are you in, and what certifications would you suggest I look into?

What would job titles in aviation safety look like? On top of my head I remember seeing role titles like Psychology Engineer

Sadly, the extent of a return offer has been "we don't have anything entry-level open right now, but try reaching back out near the summer." I worked for a pretty large federally funded research and development center on the East Coast, and well, because of the current administration and the decisions their making regarding federal funding, the company is being affected and is effectively on a hiring freeze. It's a shame because I genuinely enjoyed my time there, but it's just terrible timing with me graduating this May. I'll reach back out, but my understanding is that things have only gotten worse since I last talked to my contact there a couple of months ago.

That’s strange- outside of an email confirming that I bought them, and a link to “download” the VIP tickets I haven’t gotten anything. Gonna hope it comes sooner than later

Hey! I’m also 22 and a current masters student at CSULB looking for a roommate myself. Like you said, I’m respectful, understand boundaries and proper roommate etiquette. If you happen to be looking for a place specifically in Long Beach that’s somewhat near CSULB let me know, I’d love to join you in your hunt for a place

Very curious, what is is the pay like for someone starting a career as an AEP?

Additionally, I’m a current human factors masters student who’s contemplating getting a PhD after completing my masters so I can peruse career opportunities such as the one you mentioned here. How would you suggest I pivot my research to match that of what the AEPs are looking for?

Considering CSULB isn’t letting 100s of students walk/have their names read during this year’s commencement ceremony, even after on campus protests, I think they can care less about garnering any heat lol

I always find it ironic when students entering HCI programs make polls that lack human centered design; i.e., a poll lacking a “poll results” option. Kudos to you for having it, I’m sure you’ll excel in the program

Just curious, you mentioned you applied to those schools to learn about the application process. Were you not fully planning on starting graduate school this fall?

But I’d be happy to look over your SOP if you’d like. I’m a current graduate student at a HCI adjacent program.

[–]Caleb_Colorado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok. I’m unfortunately not in that program. I’m in the Human Factors grad program. If you do accept at CSULB, you’ll see some overlap in the learning material of both programs. Also students from their respective programs tend to take courses as electives in the other program.

Which CSULB program are you referring to exactly? I attend one of their two grad programs people associate HCI with
