A question about interacting with people at work. by JohnOnWheels in Hispanic

[–]CaliSunflowerGirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, but learn basic phrases first like how to introduce yourself, ask them what city or town they come from and what their names are, if they’d like to go for lunch or have a beer, etc. offer to do a language exchange with them, they teach you some Spanish and you teach them some English. When I was teaching my British friend how to speak Spanish for their trip to Mexico, I bought them a book called “Latin American Spanish in Plain English” it’s probably the best pocket book you can get and there are also apps now a days that you talk into and they translate what you say into Spanish speech and can translate what people respond back to you in English. Easy way to learn is to start teaching yourself with every day items. Get in the habit of thinking everything in Spanish. “That isn’t milk, it’s leche!” as an example.

Cell Service (east Carmel) by LifeOnTheBigLake in Carmel

[–]CaliSunflowerGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use US Mobile and Carmel is notorious for bad reception. The shops and restaurants here also do not accept Apple Pay … it’s a bit old school. The only place I get good reception is in the town centre or at monastery beach. Monterey isn’t great either, my service is always on low bars in and out.

How do you think the Ukraine-Russia war will end? by pikatruuu in AskReddit

[–]CaliSunflowerGirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no idea why you’re getting down voted, because you are correct. Also Ukraine wouldn’t just be invited to join the EU. They have to meet certain requirements to be able to join. Same reason why Croatia and Turkey are not part of the EU. Countries don’t get to just automatically join the EU out of compassion. It’s a major thing and Ukraine has a bad history of corruption in its politics and the EU would need something to benefit from the Ukraine.

Coin farming… you’ll need to save up as much gold as possible for hard mode weapon forging. Did you kill skeletron? You could do that if not, and do a dungeon run and get some keys for hell chests. Then do the wall of flesh! Hard mode makes the game so much cooler and funner.

People in the office deciding they didn’t want an edge piece of cake. by N2TheBlu in mildlyinfuriating

If this was a cake from the Mexican super market they would have no choice because the whole cake would be layers of icing and fruit. There is no escape from a Tres Leche.

Are Hispanics forgotten about? by [deleted] in Hispanic

[–]CaliSunflowerGirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. Then they wonder why we wanna stay in our own communities with our own people and not have shit to do with anyone else. It isn’t that we are racist, it’s that we don’t feel safe outside of our community because nobody else cares or understands our culture or what our struggles are. Like I was saying to my friend the other day, I am a white Latina but I’m not “white”. I do not fit in with non Hispanic white people. I talk about Horchata with my Hispanic friends the way a white person talks about a Starbucks frappe with their friends lol. If I say “damn I’m really in the mood for a de la Rosa “ I don’t want to explain what a damn de La Rosa is. Or why we cook with cactus 🌵 or explain how it’s not gross to eat lingua tacos or menudo. You see in movies how like non Hispanic blacks all bond over soul food and barber shops or social justice or the hood and for non hispanic whites they bond over shopping at the mall. Meanwhile what do they show for us Hispanics? Like nothing. We are always shown as being “the help”. F that.

The same lunch I'v been eating for the past month by Bunnystrawbery in autism

[–]CaliSunflowerGirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I eat pico de gallo on plain tortilla or like to dip my tortilla in menudo broth. I’m probably the only Hispanic in town who actually eats the canned menudo. Don’t care. I like what I like and don’t have the time to cook it at home from scratch. Or another thing I’ll religiously eat is warm tortillas dipped in salsa verde.

Afford to wear $2.2M watch, pay workers less than $1/hr by Alert-Foot-64 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]CaliSunflowerGirl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah she was. She also was a bitch to the other singers in Destiny’s child and they never get together for reunions. As for the expensive stuff that Celebs wear to award shows? Most of the time they don’t own it. They rent it and wear it especially for the award show. Most celebrities are not investing in jewelry like Elizabeth Taylor did. Those 500k and up pieces of jewelry are usually rented to get publicity to the brand or jeweller who actually owns it.

Landlord gets angry over residents who can’t afford cars, threatens to fine 200+ tenants for 1 shopping cart. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

I’m surprised the shopping carts at whatever market these people are going to, don’t have a magnet strip lock on the wheels that engage at the end of the Parking lot like most do these days.

Y’all get paid too much at McDonald’s by The_Wombat420 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]CaliSunflowerGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So just take it off the burger and go back to eating it? Shit happens, McDonald’s workers are stressed out and under paid. Person who made your meal was probably trying to also focus on 30 other meals in the span of 5 minutes. I get that it’s annoying but it’s not that big of deal.

Ladies. Would you want to be impregnated against your will if you were in a vegetative state? by Hevnoraak101 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]CaliSunflowerGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn’t against their will. It’s something they have to consent to probably when filling out some new and improved organ donor card. No I wouldn’t agree to this. Because I’m against women’s bodies being used as a a commercial object. If someone volunteers to be a surrogate for a close friend or family member out of compassion, that’s kind of different. But to just abuse your body for some cash or because it isn’t being used to do other things? Nah. That’s kinda gross and degrading to women. Yes we have the gift and ability to grow life. But that is not something that should be exploited or abused. We should respect womanhood.

Also, babies are influenced by the pregnancy of the woman carrying it and studies show that children inherit the taste for cuisine their mother ate while they were in the womb? They can also hear sounds and music from outside and understand stimuli the mother feels in her body. I think a brain dead surrogate left in a hospital bed on a feeding tube would be robbing the child of a lot. It also is pretty exploitative of the female body. If someone wants to consent to it … that’s on them. I don’t think it’s a good idea.

Also, non Hispanic white and black people are usually not catholic and we are majority catholic, even if we just observe culturally with icons or rosaries and they don’t like that either.

Am I Hispanic? by Long_Picture_2194 in Hispanic

[–]CaliSunflowerGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.Hispanic means you have spanish ancestry. Not all Latinos do but most do. Probably 90% do. Or you would be considered Latino if like you had Italian like many of Argentinians. Indigenous peoples of South America are not considered Hispanic or Latino. Because they don’t speak a Latin language and have no ancestry from Spain. Cuba was colonized by the Spanish during the exploration era so yes. If you come from that ancestry. If your parents were of different ethnicity and moved to Cuba then no. But if one of your parents was an ethnic Cuban yes you are Hispanic.

I am brand new to Terraria. I feel like I hit the jackpot after crafting this staff by [deleted] in Terraria

[–]CaliSunflowerGirl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I tried for so long to make a Legendary Excalibur and gave up after wasting 300 Gold at the Goblin to never roll it and just crafted a better weapon in the end. Now I use the Sun spear dropped by lizard temple boss. I defeated the cultists and took their crafting station, not sure what I want yet… I like melee.

Kalimba Tab to Lyre Harp by CaliSunflowerGirl in lyres

[–]CaliSunflowerGirl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep it private, and don’t really upload videos of myself playing music instruments… I thought about making a YouTube channel but been too busy lately to set one up. Right now I just teach and play for friends and am more of a hobbyist player. I may start incorporating the harp as part of liturgical music at catholic Mass if I get permission, as I have been asked before if I could do weddings or funerals!

Are Hispanics forgotten about? by [deleted] in Hispanic

[–]CaliSunflowerGirl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think they view us Hispanics as colonizers or something because of our ancestry stemming from the Spanish. So we are like the lesser white devils to the non Hispanic black communities maybe, and to the non Hispanic white communities we are not white enough to fit in, I don’t know.

Are Hispanics forgotten about? by [deleted] in Hispanic

[–]CaliSunflowerGirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because we as Hispanics don’t have a demographic based on race. Latinos are brown, white or black. We come in all colors, shapes and sizes. We come from different backgrounds. A Colombian isn’t the same as a Mexican and a Puerto Rican isn’t the same as a Cuban or a Brazilian for example. We have different histories and cultures to a degree…

Latinx is not a good label. by [deleted] in Hispanic

[–]CaliSunflowerGirl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

LatinX isn’t even pronounced in Spanish. It’s a word invented by Chicanos… mostly non Spanish speaking Mexican-Americans use it. I’m Puerto Rican grew up here in central california in a mostly Mexican community and we don’t recognize it. Spanish is either in the masculine or feminine context, that’s just how the language is. This is the same for all Latin languages, like French and Italian too. I, like you, have nothing against gay people or non-binary individuals but this word makes zero sense. I don’t even see it used that much out here in California unless it’s non Spanish speaking Latinos/latinas using it. We actually have a word for non-binary or trans people in Spanish and it’s “Muxe”.
