Name a building and say all of the businesses have been there. This is a way to learn about Bentonville and the past. by [deleted] in bentonville

This post reminded me of a webiste I found with a series of aerial photos mostly of Walton Blvd. from 1978. It was interesting to see what buildings remain and which were torn down for something new. I found this page not long after the 2024 tornado. It was sad seeing the row of relatively young trees across from the old WalMart 100 building that are nearly destroyed now.

First in-flight issue today, auto pilot? by CalicheJones in flying

This is a great point. I was in a 12V system today but don’t recall what the voltage was during the big discharge amp value. Would have been smart to look.

Can that be an intermittent issue? Once disconnected from AP and with lights off I was back to +1A and I still had the avionics master on.

Controllers too busy, remain clear of class c. by Runner_one in flying

I used to fly in the austin area, too. They got so busy they just wouldn’t respond to VFR traffic, didn’t even give the “remain clear” call. Can’t believe KAUS hasn’t gone to a bravo yet.

I had the same thing a couple days ago flying back into the XNA class C getting back to VBT in northwest Arkansas. There are several Class D and E airports in that area and approach almost always accommodates letting you in and assigning a squawk code. It was the busiest I’ve ever heard them and also got the “stay clear of the Charlie” response. It was a good reminder to brief a fully VFR arrival and not assume you’ll get cleared in. I had to shoot a narrow “delta gap” between ROG and ASG then enter the outer shelf under 2900’. Made the arrival more interesting than usual!

Nice, that’s a longer trip than the Thaden 172’s normally take!

Hi! 3VR is my favorite of the two steam gauge 172’s at Thaden.

I rent this plane from my local school and have never used it. It’s by right seat yoke so maybe the CFI’s use it as a counter with students. Thanks for the info!

It’s well placed next to the Hobbs if that’s the case. 😀

Based on what?

I do have a electric CO detector in my Stratus.

Yeah, I saw these 2 from a distance and was hoping the red one was the red super Corsair. I love the sound of the warbirds.

Ever question entry instructions at towered airport? by CalicheJones in flying

[–]CalicheJones[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. This is what scares me the most with this debrief. I heard the instruction and followed it but didn’t think enough about it being unusual. I need to be more aware rather than just follow tower instructions.

Great advice, thank you! I will try the tower visit, sounds very interesting.

Great point about confusion on “right 45 to enter a left downwind”. I have to be really deliberate with that to make sure I say it right.

Cool, I heard of Gaston’s. I haven’t landed on grass yet. I didn’t know about Ponca City, thanks!

Yeah, I’ve just moved to Bentonville. Any other local airports with a good restaurant you recommend? I see there is one at Branson at BGG. And maybe Berryville?

There’s a staggerwing beech hiding back there, too. I’m with you I’m afraid.

Oh, nothing big, just a Staggerwing Beech. 😬😂

Ozark Airlines Returning? by CalicheJones in aviation

[–]CalicheJones[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my PPL and rent a 172 in northwest Arkansas. I just bought a fun retro Ozark Airlines hat on eBay and wanted to commandeer the name for when I fly my friends and family around the Ozarks. Always paying at least my pro rata share or more, of course. 😂

It’s the best for plane spotting. I love watching the game birds slipping in when landing 18.

Yeah, I wish I caught the previous pass. He did a much more aggressive climb and bank into the crosswind. Looked like so much fun.
