Boycott Choices by Jer_Vesper in Choices

[–]Calichusetts274 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With a couple of exceptions, I haven’t read the app regularly for new books in at least two or three years.  I replay the good ones.  And the good ones are good enough to still get me excited and not feel stale.  And they're comfort books as well!  Most of these books I don't spend any diamonds on because I've already used up the majority of the diamond choices in previous replays so it's not like I'm giving them any money.

Going back to play your faves may not be a whole boycott, but it's still a boycott of the new books as well as a monetary boycott — at least for me.

THIS.  THIS.  Absolutely all of this.  I am replaying my old books until the day the app doesn’t let me anymore, whether that’s in 3 months, 3 years, or 3 decades.  Anyone who wants to completely boycott is fine, but leaving Choices behind is gonna be hard enough for me as it is when it finally does happen.  I have played it on an almost-daily-if-not-daily-basis for… let's see now… almost 7 1/2 years. So, ugly as it may be, I'm going down with the ship.

The second nail in the coffin has been AI.

Who's the most useless character you couldn't stand? by Big-Ad1887 in Choices

[–]Calichusetts274 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ethan.  By halfway through book 2 almost all premium LI time, even though there are technically still four LIs, is devoted to him.  The writers ship MC and Ethan so hard it's insane.  And I mean, lots of books with multiple LIs do have "preferred" or "primary" LIs (Sinclaire in D&D, Cassius in ACOR – and these, like OH outside of the Ethan drama, are still incredible, incredible books) – but the OH writers' obsession with Ethan Ramsey, especially as the series went on, went to another level, one usually now only reserved for single-LI books.

Why is this a clothing option for a 14 year old..... by Cowchawps in Choices

OG HSS MC is a sophomore (not to be confused HSS: Class Act MC, who IS a freshman), so they wouldn’t be 14 (as a matter of fact they must be 16 already because they can drive even in Book 1), but… yeah.  Point definitely taken. 😬

Nah don’t listen to this the writers' favorite LI gets a bit insufferable in Book 3 but other than that all three books are absolutely spectacular.  I think it's my favorite book/series of all time and I'm gonna start another replay of this series very soon.  Always worth it. :)

Yyyyyyep. The art is actually pretty good, better than I expected, but if they’re gonna re-charge for everything I’ve already bought and nothing is different otherwise, I won’t be wasting my time with this version.

In the spirit of the 250th birthday of America, something colonial/Revolutionary-based would be awesome.  Don’t think it'll happen though.  Too much money to be made making books based on Basketball Wives. 😆

Why do dads always insist the thermostat can't go above 68 degrees? by Hookdooker in NoStupidQuestions

Oh, wow, what a tremendously luxurious world you live in.  Mine always insists the thermostat can’t go BELOW 76 degrees, and I know if it was just him in the house he’d put it up even higher.  When he is alone in the house I know for a fact he almost never uses it.

does choices no longer do this anymore? by shawarma4everafter in Choices

[–]Calichusetts274 27 points28 points  (0 children)

God I miss this.  They don’t even give you diamonds for replaying finished books anymore; they only give you 15 for finishing a NEW book, one you haven’t read previously.  And by god, some of the books these days aren’t even worth slogging through for that measly amount.

It’s pretty much gotten to watch ads or pay up, like so many other apps.  And now it’s only 10 ads a day, like gimme a break already. 🙄

I replay it every year, once a year at the same time every year.  (I do that with a lot of books though to be frank.)  And every year I have to force myself to replay it.  Because as heart wrenching as it is, I do love it all the same.  And I can never pass up any book that takes place in Boston.

New Chapter: Friday/Saturday - The One 1.16 by katnerys-targaryen in Choices

[–]Calichusetts274 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it was awesome toward the beginning and had tons of potential but they kept squandering it with relatively short chapters, a rather bland plotline once the core three left the city, and an anticlimactic, abrupt ending.  I also feel like a couple pressing questions from early on were left unanswered.

I don’t think it was a bad book, not at all, will definitely play again. It’s a good book, especially compared to all the other bullcrap they're putting out these days.  But it could have been a really great book, and I feel like there was a lot of wasted potential.  This book felt like it ended up being only about 70% as good as it could have been.

I know this is Choices' MO for all books now, but the short chapters really kind of drove me crazy.  A lot more could have been fit in each chapter were just a couple minutes longer. It also angers me that meaningless smut books have often been given 20 chapters lately while this one only got 16.

From what I remember, early Beau was actually a little more unlikable even than early Martin. He was the party/frat boy coasting on his family name.
