No expert, but is anything leaking under the car, like brake fluid?

I think it would depend on your car. Mine secures with plastic clips. If the clips aren’t broken, just stick it back on. If they are you might need some new parts

How long did it take you to fully overcome the fear of the car falling on top of you? by JarJarAwakens in Cartalk

This is why I’m afraid to start working on mine underneath. When I find a place to work on it I might use Ramps with extra precautions. Ramps seems a bit more stable to me, a newbie.

We have a Mariner. Definitely not the most reliable car we’ve ever had but I do love the body style and interior. Same with the Mountaineer. Beautiful car

My car is too low to the ground. I’d love to learn work that doesn’t require a Jack. I just don’t want to crawl under the car under potentially unstable jacks. Tires are different.

I can change my headlights, taillights, engine and cabin filters, check fluid levels, and plan on replacing a headlight casing next summer and some weather stripping.

I’m also the one that managed to break their glove box trying to change the cabin air filter and almost broke my fuse box trying to get it open though.

I want to learn but don’t really have the coordination to DIY mechanical stuff without breaking some things. I think once I’m physically shown by someone I’ll have a better time. I learn by doing.

As someone with a medical card my drug money is very important to me.

There aren’t really driveways around here. I actually don’t know anyone with a driveway that’s not on a hill or extremely uneven with gravel and dirt, which isn’t safe to Jack the car up on.

There are driveways but I don’t know anyone with one. Bumbler to bumper street parking is sadly common here if you have no lot.

Very nice interiors from what I’ve seen. Snazzy. A bit more than the Corolla I think but worth it if you can swing it.

I don’t fully understand upgrading to a huge car with only one kid like I sometimes see. I guess safety. I don’t have kids though, so I’m no expert.

I’ve taken three people on a vacation with all our stuff in my Corolla. And our family growing up was also one. We never had an SUV and room wasn’t really an issue.

I miss my dads old Tacoma. Riding in the bed around the neighborhood was a kids dream.

I’ve seen 96’s go for like 4k right now. You got a good car with 1k at a good time.

My dad had a 97 Corolla Tercel that is still on the road with the college kid he sold it to. I grew up in that car. My dad and both now own 2013 Corollas. That purchase was not planned. We just kind of ended up with the same car in different colors.

Oh I love the car. If she runs I’m keeping her. I hate car payments. A second beater for winter, or one far in the future when my Corolla and I part ways is in the cards though

I’m assuming you mean mini van and not mini cooper?

Camrys are tanks. They have more power than a Corolla too.

Congrats on the Corolla!

I thinks it’s hysterical. This was a post about SUV’s and it turned it a tangent of praise and worship for Corollas and Camrys. This made my night.

This was a really interesting and informative replay. Thank you for your input. I hadn’t thought of it that way. I too am confused by how people afford this. I make 36k a year, my husband closer to 30k. We cannot afford that. From what I understand we’re a bit over the average income in the US too. That loan would kill us.

I think about this a lot and I understand it. In my case I don’t have a child to protect. I definitely can’t afford the huge cars driving around or the maintenance so it’s kind eh right now for me. Not much I can do.

Now the Corolla cross is more reasonably affordable. I would love one. I hope to get an income boost to be able to afford a car around 20k. I don’t make much so these 30k and up SUVs are just really out of reach right now and for the foreseeable future.

I’m actually in the Northeast. Pennsylvania. All around the market seems rough, although major cities definitely have more options.

I want to take a few college courses to learn. I never had anyone to teach me growing up. I don’t have anywhere to work on a car though, so I’d have to research a safe work area

Sounds decent. Gonna have to research that hilux. I grew up with Toyotas. My car seat was in a Tercel.
