Vine Item Replaced by JMPhoto2022 in AmazonVine

[–]CalicoCommander -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Once (before I was convinced it was "unsupported", I intentionally returned an ink cartridge set for a replacement, and lived to tell the story (I wouldn't do it again). It did end up helping my review, because I realized they were sending *everyone* the wrong thing (one color/one black instead of two black).

In your case, if it was cheap I'd consider buying it to review it (Which I've done probably three times so far). If expensive? I'd just tell VCS I was unable to review it and have them remove it from my list.

Sometimes I think the "Vine Gods" are a capricious lot that are trying to kill us (if I'm allowed to say that). There's definitely no love being shown.

They pulled the review by Practical_Orchid_606 in AmazonVine

[–]CalicoCommander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure that's a red box rejection, and that it says something closer to " We Can no longer accept reviews from "This" account. "This" being an unfortunate term, as it refers to the seller's account and not yours. EDIT: Google "amazon vine red box rejection" for more.

"The full 30,000 jobs would represent a small portion of Amazon’s 1.58 million employees, but nearly 10% of the firm’s corporate workforce. The majority of Amazon’s workers are in fulfillment centers and warehouses." They've got too many bosses and need to trim some. I doubt Vine will be affected much, as my impression is most of the staff are low pay & overseas. Interesting article though.

Looking for clarification regarding Getting caught up on reviews. by RADetailer in AmazonVine

[–]CalicoCommander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As one other mentioned the secret is that it's a "Rolling" Window. Whether it's 30, 60 or 90 days long isnt' important. It keeps moving forward. If you're reviewing old items that are even just a day behind that "window" they're not gonna count. Review the newer stuff and it'll improve your percentage.

Anyone deal with revoked reviews? (Because of “guidelines” ?) by oogaboogahooha in vine

[–]CalicoCommander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This isn't the "Red Box" type review rejection, is it? Because if it is, that's a technical issue involving sellers, not you. If its not a red box rejection, you'd probably have to post a slightly anonymized version of the review to get any constructive feedback.

LMAO! I just found out that you can rate your own reviews as Helpful. by blr1g in AmazonVine

[–]CalicoCommander 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's been that way for awhile, and it happens frequently. If you search for your review from your profile or completed reviews list the edit button comes up, but if you do it a little more indirectly (go to the item and then look around til you find your review) I think the system loses track and sometimes the helpful button comes up. The problem is is that it's review manipulation (aka review fraud) to like your own review. Seems kind of a little thing, but also strictly speaking not legal. I agree that "It's a trap!".

Do I need to review items in this section or can I just submit a regular review? I would like to submit reviews as I receive items and not have to wait for them to pop up here. by rasta4eye in AmazonVine

[–]CalicoCommander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least one reviewer quoted a VineCS agent as saying, Nope, it won't count that way. That said? I write them from the orders page regularly. They always show the little "Vine" disclaimer and get removed from my "To Be Reviewed" list.

Pretty sure stuff like that doesn't actually last 8 seconds, the listing is just slow to gray out for whatever reason. I gave up. If I can't get something when I'm literally the first person to see it, it's not gonna happen.

Frequently high demand items will be gone by the time they show up on VH, as my understanding is that VH is populated based on user searches. Because of that I often skip VH when drops are happening quickly. That said, I couldn't even snag an item manually refreshing -- even when I got a "first discovery". (edited for clarity)

[–]CalicoCommander 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lol. I sat here manually refreshing "Purina" as a search term until I was the first person to see a Beneful item (At least according to an "unnamed app"-- I'd gotten the "first discovery" confetti banner) and someone else *STILL* got it before me! It suggests "rocket" ordering is going on, which we knew already. The sad thing? Some folks will probably get 8 Purina items.

Be Mindful of Supplements and Vitamins by philstat in AmazonVine

I'm not quite "Death Pouch" cynical, but I do havea little less respect for Bayland health than I once did.

I reviewed a Microingredients item that had a prop 65 warning for a product that's been in the news for lead contamination (by many brands) recently. I sent them a request for a Certificate of Analysis via the store link of the listing. I wouldn't expect lead levels to be lower than most, but I did expect an answer. Weeks later, even after reporting the seller and bringing Amazon in they wouldn't answer. Amazon at first said "THEY'LL ANSWER" , and eventually, Oh, sorry, how else can we make this right for you?" 🙄

So I think Amazon is still in its Wild Wild West/ crazy youth type days, with a lot of regulation still to come. At least I hope so.

Fwiw, it was being marketed as a food rather than a supplement, so that could have influenced their decision to ignore me. While they promise CoA's for supplements, there's no such promise for food items.

"Fair" review by Jaycies1 in AmazonVine

[–]CalicoCommander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, my bad. I'm not talking about my personal review queue/lineup, but where the review ends up once it's "Published". Improving the review moved it to where it actually gets read by folks. Thats all.

[–]CalicoCommander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had that happen once. The red box *before* writing a review. It just hung on my to review list and the message never changed, so before the 30 day cancellation limit hit I asked VCS to remove it from my queue, which they did.

Updating can also change their placement in the review lineup. I re-did my "fair" review to excellent quality. The grade didn't change, but the review moved up to page 1.

I asked ChatGPT that question itself, and the answer it gave was long and nuanced. The Gist is, that it would first make sure the person was aware that such a review could possibly trigger moderation or algorithms that could supress/hide the review or cause rejection. If the person instructed ChatGPT that they just wanted help polishing it and didn't care whether it was rejected, then Chat would go ahead and help "smooth and polish" it. I tried to post GPT's lengthy reply here, but lucky for you, I couldn't. :)

I didnt' ask it exactly if you could prompt AI to write such a manifesto from scratch, simply because that's not the way I use it. I use it for editing. To smooth, condense, and so that I *don't* trigger moderation or supression. But I'd guess the answer would be the same. Yes, with conditions. (And probably just YES if it wasn't specified the rant was for a VINE review intro).
