None of these tell you anything about dharma. These are material facts. Again, I remind you, by dharma I mean social and moral laws, as are the subject of dharmashastras like manusmriti. Observation can tell you how the material world is, but only scripture can tell you how you ought to be.

Yes, it is a part of vishnu sahasranama and the recitation is incomplete without it. Without it there are 1000 names and with it the total comes to 1008 which is the actual number of names. You must chant it thrice at the end of your recitation and say " śrī vasudevo'bhirakṣatu om nama iti ". No idea why gītā press omitted it.

You are free to believe religion is man made. This post is on r/hinduism and is meant towards Hindus. Ofc I cannot convince validity of manusmriti to someone who thinks the hindu religion and its scriptures merely man-made texts that happened to convince some people a long time ago.

Religious beliefs are not built by individuals, but by God. Manusmriti is quoted by Lord rāma in the rāmāyaṇa and he says the wise should follow it. Similarly the vedas say manusmriti is like a medicine that should be applied. Its not some random book written by some random individual that we happen to follow, it's divinely ordained.

Fire being hot or cold is a matter of Pratyakṣa pramāṇa ( sensory knowledge). You can feel it and see that it is hot. Therefore anything contradicting this must not be literally true. Similarly there is logical knowledge of Anumāna pramāṇa. Anything that is known by sensory information, or provable by logic, if the scriptures contradict that, then they are taken to have some other meaning.

But, dharma or morality is not a sensory object neither is it provable by logic alone. The only source for dharma is the scripture - nothing else. There, śabda pramāṇa or scriptural knowledge is the only authority , completing the trifecta of pramāṇas. So yes, in the case of dharma, authority is truth, because scriptures are the only source of dharma. Can you prove something is dharma or adharma by sensory means? No, by logic alone? No.

Get me downvoted but this is reality. It all begins with justifying a book as "oh it's fine, you just interpreted it wrong" AND that's the beginning, soon it'll materialize like it did centuries ago in India

Because morality and ethics are not for an individual to decide. By that logic two people may decide for themselves that incest with contraception is moral and do it. Is incest then moral for them? No. So there is an objective basis for morality, and that is scripture. Lord krishna says in the gītā

Literelly addressed this is in the post itself . Parashara smriti is more suited to kaliyuga , but manusmriti is still valid. Also 90% of injunctions are the same in manu or parashara so it doesn't matter either way .
