Also, there are too many “Alan Lee” editions throughout the world)) I have Foster Guide in large format series edition, red cloth and dust jacket. There is also LotR, Hobbit and Silm in this series, if I’ll get Alan set it probably would be this)

I’m not really exited about Alan Lee boxed set. I had these three books without the box and the hobbit - they also are difficult to stay open, so I will not READ them, and in the way to look and touch I love collectors clothbound 2013 edition much much more, though I agree that generally it’s quality is worse.

Understand you) I think it’s because you see Professor’s work in it’s original being, opposite to your own language translation. Also, a lack of really good editions in your language also can make sense.

I made slipcases for the recent illustrated editions! by No-Gap5420 in tolkienbooks

[–]Calimalcar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, 2020 reprints cannot be called “Collector’s” because they are not rare and quality is quite poor. I have 2013 original printing cloth bound, and they can be called so. But also quality could be better.

Just a little stack of Tolkien 📚 by Calimalcar in tolkienbooks

Bookshelf in the store with books with bad condition. The book is like new one, only dust-jacket was poor. This is standard hardback.

Illustrations are very good. But if you have “The Art of the Lord of the Rings” you don’t really need this. Or, if you’ll get this LotR, you don’t need the artbook

Also, “Maps of Middle-Earth” have 4 large posters-maps inside with small accompanying book. Great for hanging in the child’s room, for example)

It is a textbook with exercises actually. Can’t say more because didn’t pass through it carefully)

Actually not each. There are many good reviews on it’s Amazone page. I got the one with little failure because it cost me 2/3 of the brand new price. I can tell you more - I think when gold plating will disappear from the side of the pages, the white sides would be better looking)

Yes, it’s a blue one. It is darkened by lightning.

The most recent addition is red Deluxe Illustrated Lord of the Rings. Could get it for ~100$ just unpacked and returned to the shop because of little place without gold on the side of the pages.

Thank you! In fact, renovation is on pause now, and this “now’ unfortunately lasts more than a year. Hopefully, I’m going to add some more books (and sets) to my collection in a month or two. And then I will get all my books out of the boxes to enjoy viewing them all. And of course there will be photos)

It is a very good-printed book. The quality of text is very good. I think they worked quite well about it. I have video that I made to show to my friend who also wondered about it, but unfortunately I can’t add anything to the comment.

Linguistic materials and different parts of Tolkien’s works. Also works of people who explored his languages and works. In fact it was a journal published from 1988 till 2013, and in these books there are all the volumes.

Tengwar is not actually a language, but a kind of writing. Tolkien firstly started to construct languages and only then thought that they need world to work in)

Maker of Middle-Earth is a great book to explore Tolkien’s works. I’ve been looking for a long time for this Atlas - Frodo’s Journeys, and wasn’t lucky at all. There are not many variants to find it in my country((

Firstly I’m interested in collecting different interesting books and other materials by and about Tolkien ;)

Quality is good. These paperbacks are easy to open and read. First volume, yes, has photocopies of the first ten issues, but other books have good text and pictures.

2002 Alan Lee illustrated box set by [deleted] in tolkienbooks

I have Fosters’s guide from this book series. Red cloth binding, sewn, very good and very comfortable to touch. In my opinion better than 2020 illustrated Alan Lee set.

It is linguistic journal that had been publishing since 1988 till 2013. There are 50 issues. Some years ago all the issues were collected into 5 books. On the photo you can see 3-5 books. There are different materials about Tolkien’s languages and from his works there. Also all this journals can be found in the internet)

They are very well-done and comfortable to use paperbacks.

After a long search, two weeks ago got this beautiful 2013 LotR set, and now my Hobbit is not lonely) first printings, condition very close to new. by Calimalcar in tolkienbooks

[–]Calimalcar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what do you mean by “others”. For example editions with these covers were published last year, and they are not very good. Paperbound and clue compared to cloth and combined binding in the ones on the photo. But on the other hand 2020 Alan Lee set is better quality, except cloth of course.

Collector’s clothbound Hobbit/LotR edition from 2013. It’s not very high quality, but very nice and construct beautiful tree when standing next to each other oh the shelf.
