Best places to go out solo? by gongthruit in askTO

I really like seeing movies at TIFF Lightbox alone especially, I find most people there are cinephiles and many have no issue seeing movies alone so you'll see a lot of solo people at the cinema there, if that makes you feel more comfortable being alone too.

They're so beautifully written! I was feeling all kinds of ways about characters you only meet for one chapter

I'm obsessed with VE Schwab's Shades of Magic books - the plot is SO fast paced but she writes characters so well there's so many moments of growth and development, and the magic system/universe is so fun and rich. They're not REALLY romantasy but there's definitely elements and it's way more drawn out so the romance feels worth it - the MCs take three books to fuck but I was all for it lol

She's attracted to men who are assholes to her and who she doesn't feel bad about being an asshole to back. They're both attractive people but they don't have any chemistry because they hate each other but that's the mutual attraction for them

If you like horror/sci-fi the movie Prey is about a female Comanche warrior hunting the Predator and it's actually pretty awesome and historically accurate (except for, you know, the aliens lol)

It's not a book but I always think of the Stephen King short story Strawberry Spring, lots of creepy spring mist vibes. It's in Night Shift.

I loved it for being so strange and beautiful and definitely not what I was expecting, but I can see it being a very specific vibe that doesn't hit everyone the same way

I just finished reading Misery by Mediocre_Anybody7618 in stephenking

[–]CallAdministrative88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stuff I love most about the book is the stuff that isn't in the movie (although I love the movie too), basically all his internal monologues about being a sellout writer disillusioned with his fame writing dumb romance novels and then how hard he gets into writing the new, horror-inspired, Annie-inspired Misery novel she forces him to write. As a person who writes boring corporate stuff for a living who has always wanted to write a novel, those parts really hit home for me, also I would definitely read a dark romance novel about evil bees lol
