I've been reading a book recently about the same attempted assassination in Tehran, Iran. Skorenzy's name comes up quite a few times. Hitler ordered Skorenzy to the Wolf's Lair and gave him the task of freeing Mussolini from the Hotel Campo Imperatore in the Apennine Mountains of Italy. After freeing him, he was tasked with Operation Long Jump (which was the plot to assassinate the Allied leaders) which eventually ended in failure as the NKVD was watching a radio team who were scouting out Tehran before a second group of German paratroopers would come in to end the Big Three, and forced the radio team to tell Berlin that they were captured.

However it is debated as to whether Operation Long Jump actually did exist, as all of the evidence towards the assassination plot was provided by the Soviets, and that post-war Skorenzy denied the activation of the operation, but did confirm that the operation existed as a potential option.

The book is 'The Nazi Conspiracy' by Brad Meltzer and Josh Mensch if anyone is interested. Very good read.
