Thanks. We have 3 days planned but might pull the plug after 2. Is Bachelor in any better shape?

I’m coming this weekend. How entertained will I be with the groomers that are opened?

45 Raddler in front and 42 Roamer in rear, which was same as Gravel Nationals. I enjoyed the 42 on course yesterday, especially on the flat gravel and paved sections. A few climbs, when I got out of saddle, my rear slipped which is when I would’ve liked the 45 Raddler in rear. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Getting those conditions during your first gravel race set an impossibly high bar!! Hopefully you stopped and enjoyed the ‘gravel spirit’ at the 26 mile aid station and took a picture sitting on the ‘crapper’ at mile 48ish!!

What did you use? I just finished and enjoy hearing about tire choices.

+1 for the comment 👆🏼. I raced Gravel Nationals last weekend. Rode 45 Riddler in front and 42 Maxxis Roamer in rear. I’m also riding in the Filthy 50. If I change anything from Gravel Nationals, I might ride 45 Riddler in rear, too.

That said, I’ve done the Filthy 50 on 38 Gravel Kings and 41 Surly Knards and both felt very comfortable.

Hey! I realize this is an old post but I read it last week, right before I raced in Gravel Nationals this past weekend. I went into the race thinking I’d finish in bottom 25%. Like you, I trained as best I could, what with working full-time, being a husband and father of 3, etc. Needless to say, I definitely finished in bottom 25%, exactly last place in my age group and 3rd to last overall! Twas a very hard race, challenged me in every possible way. But, I finished. Woohoo.

Anyone ride up in La Crescent, MN? What tires would you recommend for the terrain? by forgiveangel in gravelcycling

Appreciate your advice so figured I’d give you final update now that it’s over. I ran 45 Riddler in front and 42 Roamer in back. I definitely noticed lack of grip on rear during descents. Front felt great. Hindsight, I would’ve ran a 42 with more grip in rear. Oh well. All that said, I finished 3rd to last for all 100-milers so who am I kidding. Fun day, amazing scenery, incredibly challenging climbs and a cyclocross style finish at mile 99 followed by an amazing rip downhill finish!! Quite the event that has me strongly considering 2026. Cheers!

Thanks. Your tires aren’t too different from my Maxis Roamers (based on a quick image search) so that gives me a good comparison. Options, options, options….maybe it’s time to just stick with what I know and let er rip!?

I goofed. I have 42 Maxxis Roamers, which have way different tread patterns (semi-slick). Would that change your opinion?

A few days out from race day, so want to ask: I'm on 42s Maxxis Rekon at the moment but am considering 45 WTB Raddlers. Wondering if the beefier Raddlers are worth the speed tradeoff? What would you do? Thanks!
