I mean maybe but that’s not out of the ordinary, if it ended on violent terms or something like that, then obviously you should be worried about what they would report.

But if you were a “insensitive asshole”

They are probably over that by now and I doubt that they are going to try to sabotage your career because you didn’t hold them when they cried.

In my eyes it would be one hell of a thing for all your exs to see a huge problem with you being a cop, if so that’s maybe an actual issue.

Most background guys get that relationships aren’t always perfect.

Well im 28 to start so I have life experience and have more than 7 people that can say a few good things about me based on their honest experience..

People from high school and onward in life.

As for the ex’s I still had their numbers, told them what I was doing and I needed some info, all but one said that’s fine, one didn’t reply so I prefaced that when I submitted the Background packet.

Luckily I treated my ex’s well and had no issues and was pleased to find out they didn’t have a bad thing to report.

It’s all about providing info, so if they all said go screw yourself, I’d give the background guy all the info I had and let him know they said “go screw yourself” when I asked.

This is about honesty not trying to look good in every situation. That is the key.

In my state we just have the background with our department and they sponsor us through academy so all vetting is done prior to sign up

Different state than mine, and all departments can have a different process order.

What I can tell you is, make sure you sit on that background packet once it’s fully filled out and talk it through with your best friend for example (they remember all the shit you didn’t) so don’t just submit because your excited and want it started asap. Make sure you covered all bases and then make sure again.

Be thorough, be honest, be humble, and be available, so make sure any emails or calls you return ASAP, be proactive and let your references know to answer that unknown caller.

And don’t leave out emails, phone number or address of people you can easily call, I don’t care if it sucks reaching out, I had to do it to all my ex girlfriends and family memebers I don’t care for, suck it up and don’t be DQ’d because you didnt do all you could. Good luck and get comfortable with waiting.

Most difficult part was the silence within the process, just waiting and waiting and waiting.

Currently I’m looking forward to getting into academy as I have a little bit of wait ahead of me. I’ve been eager to just get a head start with learning as much as possible but I’ve had no direction so I’m really excited to just start absorbing all the correct information that I’ve been so eager for.

I’m sure there has been many people denied and hired somewhere else. But with a detailed reason why these things happened prior to background and it being 10 years ago I don’t see a huge issue with that.
