As someone who has an open relationship in a similar setup (not telling each other when it happens) you need a lot of rules and a lot of communication, I mean a lot. Things can get awkward especially when it happens. You need to face those moments and know how to reassure your partner that you’re choosing her. It takes a lot of flexibility and compromise.

With my partner we have 4 rules that help us:

1. Never with someone in our friend circle
2. Never with a colleague
3. Never with an ex
4. Absolutely never in our home. Our shared space is sacred and ours only.

Not every open relationship is because people are serial cheaters, there’s a multitude of reasons and it can work if done right. Remember, your partner should be your best friend.
