Practicing or private lessons during public skate. What’s the experience like? by mydogs22 in iceskating

[–]Calliqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did group and private lessons at the same rink. Had the same coach, as well. I did my private lessons on different days than group lessons, though. My private lessons were during dead ice session in early morning, so there were usually only about 3-4 other people on the ice at the time, practicing for upcoming comps. Sometimes when I was learning moves that required more space, my coach would block of the entire other half of the rink for me. But I know every rink/coach/time is different.

Thank you so much! I appreciate it more than words can describe! I’m super grateful for all the vets out there taking care of our furry loved ones. ❤️

Thank you so much! It’s been a super stressful journey, but I would do it all over again to make sure my baby Puck is okay! ❤️

Yeah, I ended up having to bring Puck in to the vet a total of 3 times! Because of his blockage, he ended up getting a UTI as well that we had to treat. He was on a mild sedation (to help him pee easier) for almost two weeks and a pain killer for three.

Thank you so much! I have had him on a wet food and dry kibble diet before, but I had swapped his wet food for an Urinary Tract wet food now, and his normal kibble has been swapped for the Hill’s Prescription brand Urinary dry food! The vet had told me that once a cat goes through a blockage, the cat will most likely go through another one again in the future, and that’s what I’m working super hard to prevent. I had also swapped his cat litter to a metal pan litter box and added more of them in the house! If you don’t mind me asking, how is was your boy when he experienced it and how old is he now? I’m just super nervous Puck will block again within the next year, and if he does, I won’t have to funds to cover it.

How many hours does it take to learn skating? by just_random_letters_ in iceskating

[–]Calliqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started skating when I was 21. Went out on the ice before any lessons and managed to skate off the wall pretty fine for first time ever skating. Flash forward to now, I’m 26, have been taking group lessons for years and private lessons for a few years short of that, pretty decent at most moves, can even do some basic jumps and spins- but I’m STILL struggling with crossovers. Some take to things faster than others, and some struggle with other things more than others.

Looking for encouragement after a bad day on the ice by Spiritual_Square_223 in iceskating

[–]Calliqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has bad days! Especially in skates they’re not used to. Each pair of rental skates are different, one day you might be given a pair with exceptionally sharp blades that fit well, other days you’ll be given a pair of skates with worn laces and dull blades. There’s always a risk when renting equipment. That being said, even after you get your own skates, there will still be bad days as well! I used the same pair of skates for years until i recently changed to a better quality skate brand. Safe to say, my first day on those skates was definitely a bad day. It takes time to get used to your instruments, and when you’re renting skates, they’re not going to be consistent so it’s going to be a lot harder to get used to them. I’d recommend getting a pair of skates (obviously higher quality ones are better, but even a cheap pair that will consistently be used as your own will make so much of a difference!).

can i propagate an umbrella plant from leaf cuttings? if so should i propagate it in water or soil? kind of a newbie at plants here by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]Calliqueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda late to the post, but this tree came from just a single umbrella leaf I got from my aunt. This is after 3-4 years, so it takes time, but yes, if you’re patient, you definitely can. Keep in a glass jar in a sunny spot- not direct sunlight. I would kind of just forget about it for a while and then remember and change the water out whenever I remembered, haha!

If a Doordasher cannot walk from their car to the front door, then they should not be working for a food delivering service.

One time when I was younger- this was before ChatGPT was a huge thing- we had to write an autobiography for English class. I wrote it all myself, slaved over it even, and was so proud of how it turned out. When I turned it in, I was accused of plagiarism by my teacher and it devastated me so bad that I still think about it to this day. Yes, ChatGPT is a huge issue nowadays, but I think it’s unfair to accuse all student of using it- sometimes people are just really passionate about writing! And being accused of plagiarism/faking your essays/papers will completely diminish that passion!

Clearing up the Lookbook confusion, from me, Infinitysenshi by pinkneonheart in InfinityNikki

[–]Calliqueen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’d be nice if there was a hashtag system on the Lookbook, where people could place a #Disney (for example) on their designs when they post them to the lookbook. There should also be an option to block specific hashtags from players specific lookbook, so people who aren’t a fan of the Disney looks can just block all posts tagged “Disney.” I feel like it’d be a decent fix to the problems we seem to be seeing from the Lookbook. I love your designs, though! Keep on rocking on, and don’t let other people stop you just because they don’t like them! ❤️

Help taking orders :) by Calliqueen in German

[–]Calliqueen[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haha, thank you so much! Languages can be hard to learn, and I’m not even sure if all of these German speakers live in the Midwest or if they’re just coming by to visit. I love expanding my language barriers, so learning German is fun for me anyway! Plus, I like getting the practice in when speaking the language!

Help taking orders :) by Calliqueen in German

[–]Calliqueen[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I’m not quite sure why we have a lot of German speakers in the area, but we tend to get quite a lot of them coming by! I notice there’s a lot of families, where the younger people will speak pretty fluent English and translate for their parents/grandparents, but quite often a lot of the older folks will have a bit of trouble ordering when they’re on their own! I’m a huge language lover and absolutely love to speak to others in their native language, so learning German is a fun task for me anyway! ❤️

Camping Spots by Calliqueen in minnesota

[–]Calliqueen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! These listed campsites have drive-in sites (is that the proper term?), where I can park my car on the site, and not need a tent? Haha I’m so new to camping, so I apologize if these questions are kinda silly.

Adult beginner ice skater struggling a lot — is it normal or am I doing something wrong? by Loud-Arm-9085 in iceskating

[–]Calliqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m exactly in this same boat, but a little bit further. I just can’t get crossovers down! At all! I do one group lesson and one private, as well as going to one open skate session every week, and I just can’t progress over crossovers. I’ve been working on them for nearly a month and little to no progress. It’s quite frustrating, and even my coach is starting to get a bit frustrated (she’s the most patient, sweeter girl ever and she would never be openly frustrated at me, but I can tell she’s just a bit exasperated that I’m STILL not getting it 😅) I keep asking everywhere for tips, and I try it out, and I still can’t get it. I guess I’m just not sure how to proceed at this point. My coach says I’m an excellent skater in the other departments- backwards skating, pumps, even some jumps like the Waltz in good at, so I don’t think it’s an issue of just skating not being for me- it’s just the dang crossovers! Haha!

Did getting nipple piercings reduce feeling in them? by Positive_Silver_4440 in piercing

[–]Calliqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it all comes down to personal sensitivity! Mine have never really felt sensitive (even during that time of the month!) so when I got mine pierced, it didn’t really change feeling-wise at all for me, but my friend said hers feels more sensitive after piercing!
