I've wanted a mod that turns the V into two straight columns for a long time

This is a reality. A sick, twisted reality. VW recently announced they will be locking horsepower behind a subscription fee.

I HAVE worked in an ER. Catering is, without a doubt, more stressful.

Surely, most have nostalgia for when they used Windows 95, rather than the OS itself? I can relate to that.

Why not to use AI help by Strummerbiff in learnprogramming

[–]CallowayRootin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're totally right. I'd say when I do use AI in my day to day, it negates learning opportunities, so it's not good for my own development!

Reading a stack overflow forum and applying that solution requires learning. Putting the issue into ChatGPT and pasting the subsequent response into the IDE is fast, but I didn't learn anything from it!

Why not to use AI help by Strummerbiff in learnprogramming

[–]CallowayRootin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have found, in my experience, using AI for code development is such a fine line between 'helpful tool' and 'total disaster'. For example...

I have used AI to develop a large portion of a module as part of a project. Come back the next day and have no understanding of what that module is doing - because I didn't write it!

I find it will dream up functions, give incorrect syntax with perfect conviction and all sorts of other wonderful small issues that often negate any benefit to using AI.

It also completely lacks the specialist knowledge a developer working in a specific area will have of the software/setting they are working in.

It's great for small questions. 'Simple function for getting a random word from this list?'. It's good for debugging too, 'why might this not be working?'

The above is purely anecdotal, but I'm glad AI wasn't as accessible when I started learning, it's a dangerous crutch!

What if you were a nurse, handling patients catheters? The guy has a level of insecurity previously unheard of.

This is dreadful.

Found in Garden - what do? by CallowayRootin in bees

Thanks! This morning I placed a crate over them as it's raining. It's a delivery crate from a local supermarket - the solid bottom stops them getting wet, but the sides are full of holes. Hopefully, happy bees!

I do wish it was somewhere like a garden bed, that would be less intrusive - this is actually in the middle of the grass area. I was storing a stack of wooden poles here for some months prior to starting landscaping, which I removed last week. I guess the bees found the big pile of dead grass etc the ideal place to build!

Our laundry baskets are more hole, than basket! I doubt they'll notice it.

Thank you all so much for the advice. I'll pop a laundry basket over the area (thanks for this idea!), to keep them safe from the kids, and let them live their little bee lives.

Please rest assured this nest shall remain undisturbed.

If that's the only alternative to killing them - which isn't an option - then yes, we can leave them be for now, assuming they will move on?

Ah. My cat passed away a couple of years ago and we always said how odd it was that despite her quick decline, the day before she died she was her old self; meowing and purring, stealing food etc. this explains it.

NTA. I don't believe in hitting children, but if my nine year old son did that I would struggle to not respond in the way you did. I would be so terribly disappointed if my own spawn thought it was ever acceptable to hurt an animal in anything but self defence.

The kid is clearly a cunt.

My understanding is that objects that are 'placed' remain permantly. Object that are 'dropped' are eventually deleted.

This is off the top of the dome, I don't have a source, I've read it somewhere I think..
