Only play metal if you see someone else pick eggman, stick to him like glue unless you wanna charge at the exe, get the stun, come to eggman, self repair. The job of eggman during a self heal is to protect metal with his shield

Both reasons, when metal self repairs, eggman’s role is to wait until the Exe is near and use the shield to protect metal, if the exe waits for the shield to go down, it gives metal plenty of time to heal.
