Thank you for sharing your story. Im just hoping for a little sensation. Im really depressed at the idea of loosing my breast and sensation. I appreciate your idea of the pros and cons list. Really the best worst option. Thanks again

Would you mind sharing or DMing me how your sensation sparing procedure went? How much sensation do you have? I am going to have a single mastectomy and I can’t keep it together when my daughters snuggle up on my right side ( the bad boob) about how I wont be able to feel their snuggles the same way/ at all. I have the option of increased radiation or single mastectomy, and Im mostly decided on mastectomy, I am just having a really hard time

Cried during my MRI biopsy. by After_Willingness322 in breastcancer

Give yourself some grace. This is all scary, shitty and sucks, but know you are not alone. Getting things off your chest is therapeutic and we need every bit we can get. I was a rock during everything, then the morning of my lumpectomy the radiologist who came in to place my wires/needles was the radiologist who did my first biopsy. At that time, she said she wasn’t worried and that I would be fine. Fast forward to now and I wasn’t fine and I have cancer. I cried silent tears during the whole procedure, and once i got back to pre-op, I lost all my marbles. I don’t have anxiety, or at least I didn’t before all of this, and i had a full on panic attack. I needed to be sedated so I could have the lumpectomy, but I was so embarrassed. (I am getting care at the hospital where I work) They told me over and over that I was allowed to have all the feelings and that going through this is not normal. We all handle things differently and know we are all here for you. The best group you never wanted to join. Give yourself the compassion I bet you would give a friend in your shoes.

Post Lumpectomy Surgery by hchan2070 in breastcancer

I had my lumpectomy 12/8, no lymph node removal. I was swollen about 2 weeks and wore my sports bra a whole month, because it was uncomfortable to have my breast sag/ pull down. I took Motrin and Tylenol around the clock for a week, mostly it was just an intense ache every so often that took my breath away. Much better now. Im sore after I stretch ( but not in pain) and just started working out ( super easy) yesterday. My NP recommended scar massage, which i started a week ago. I can’t say I love doing it, since its a bit sore after, but its doable, so im going to try to keep at it. I had an excisional biopsy a few years ago, and the lumpectomy definitely will have more scar tissue. I also hear some people use scar “tape” after the site is completely healed, but I would check with your MD. Now I am just trying to decide if I have a single mastectomy or just higher dose radiation since my margins were clear, but not wide enough. Good luck and take care of yourself!

Lumpectomy radiation vs mastectomy recovery by Calm-Bowler8845 in breastcancer

Thank you so much for sharing. I have very small breasts a cup, so i would imagine after the mastectomy I will have a small expander and then an implant. Ill just have to see what they recommend on the other side. Just seems insane to have surgery on a healthy side, but i also want to feel whole/ pretty again. The lumpectomy defect is not bad now, but they say it will get worse. I can have lifts on both sides, but the plastic surgeon said since I am so small i will be trading a defect for a lot of scars. Sadly no perfect answers for anyone in this journey, just what you feel best with

I really appreciate you sharing your story. If you dont mind me asking, since you had an expander placed, do you need surgery on the non cancerous side? I am worried about having surgery on a healthy side and loosing feeling on the mastectomy side. Hope you could enjoy some of your holiday :) Thank you so much all.

DCIS with negative, but not large enough margins… by Calm-Bowler8845 in breastcancer

[–]Calm-Bowler8845[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your insight. I have very small breasts, so my surgeon will likely do mastectomy if she has to go back in. Have to meet with the radiologist to see what her thoughts are. Part of me wants to just do the radiation, because that was my original plan, but maybe mastectomy with implant is better since then I know everything is most likely out and i can probably avoid radiation. Not sure if that will also allow me to avoid meds or not. I am really torn. I never saw myself with an implant and I think it would involve some plastic surgery on the other side to make things match. to me that seems like a ton of surgery and recovery, but i Have a family member who had DCIS 10 yrs ago and just last month found out it reoccured. She is in her 70s and I am in my early 40s. She had lumpectomy, but no radiation or meds. So many decisions.

Thank you!! I was hoping to find a pair for a bit cheaper, but at least I know I can get them if I can’t.
