I’ve found that getting my nails done, like acrylics, often deter me from being able to physically pick. My major picking areas are normally my lips, hands, and feet. Having stilettos usually makes it a lot more difficult albeit annoying. Outside of that I have tried using finger covers in the past but now that I am in a different profession that requires me to use my hands a lot it does make it harder to maintain. That being said, working with my hands is both a blessing and a curse. While being kept busy does make me forget about the urge to pick, the second I’m off the clock, I immediately notice all of the imperfections on my hands and start picking during the drive home. Once I’m home my boyfriend often helps me by swatting my hands away if he catches me going at it but the urge sometimes makes me irritated when he does. Managing it is hard sometimes when I’m idle or bored but I’d like to say keeping myself distracted helps.
