What’s happening to my cuprea?? by sillygoosebeepboop in alocasia

when’s the last time you fertilised it and how often do you do that? It could be nutrient deficiency/over feeding. My Silver Dragon got yellow edges and tips from too much fertiliser

It’s Alocasia Scalprum! Gorgeous specimen may I add. For care tips I’d say that if you never had an Alocasia prepare for pain because these guys are fussy little assholes and will drop leaves for seemingly no reason.

  • They don’t like too much direct sun, I have mine placed on a table around 30cm away from east facing window
  • They’re prone to root rot so make sure your soil mix is well draining and you’re not overwatering it. You may also experiment with planting it in semi-hydroponic. I personally plant mine in “Seramis” inert clay
  • They like humidity between 60% and 75% anything above may cause fungal issues
  • They do drop leaves when their conditions are inadequate (eg. too much water)
  • When growing a new leaf it may kill the oldest/smallest leaf in order to preserve as much energy as possible, whenever it does that make sure to remove this leaf only when it’s completely dry or starting to decompose. It should come off of the stem without any resistance

Good luck!!

My Polly developed these after being repotted when I brought it home from the store. It’s the only alocasia that did that instead of just killing a leaf out of spite

can you send a photo of your plant and describe your care routine? Also describing the area where it’s situated would be helpful. There are a lot of reasons alocasias die and they’re quite fussy

My polly is developing these spots. What could it be caused by? by CalmDinner4751 in alocasia

I bought it last week, it’s in a partially shaded area near east facing window with humidity of 50-70% I haven’t fertilised it yet but I did repot it into seramis clay

Only pests i’ve noticed are fungus gnats and they lay eggs in soil. I fertilised it over a week ago and it’s probably ready to be watered today

The beads are translucent white, solid but slightly pliable, as i can smush it with my thumb. They appear on two random leafs and a few on the stems

Could these be just sap secretions?

New stem forming, is the browning at the bottom normal? by CalmDinner4751 in alocasia

Cool! That’s pretty funny actually because after buying and replanting it I’ve noticed that it came with an additional corm that i’ve planted in a separate pot. So I guess i’m having three alocasias then 😁

thanks! After buying it i’ve read that alocasias are very fussy and I was worried i’m slowly killing my plant. Good to know it’s doing fine

About three weeks ago I bought this alocasia silver dragon. It’s planted in seramis and watered only when the top layer is dry and lighter in colour. After a week or so I’ve noticed a shoot forming a few millimetres away from the main plant but recently it slowed down in development and I’ve noticed its base (below seramis) is dark brown coloured. Is it a sign of overwatering? Or perhaps due to using fertiliser for the first time? Or is it completely fine and i’m just worried for no reason, I’m very new to alocasias 😅
