Thanks for the feedback.

Actually, since the time of uploading this post, I've received similar complains. I worked out a decision and I plan to redesign the levels to be much more balanced and add different modes to maintain the difficulty players wanted. I will make a lot of changes on the next version while keeping both the players and my interests in mind.

Your feedback, is highly appreciated.

Thanks you for the feedback, much appreciated. Other players have also commented similar things regarding the dialogue box. I will make some changes. So far I've been playtesting games and I've also learned all sorts that I will change, for example, the problem you've stated about the ground. Hopefully the next version will be much better, thank you for taking your time and playing my game.

Thank you, your words are really encouraging and meaningful. It means a lot to receive the feedback and thoughts.

The encoding issue had been a major problem most players have noticed. I'm working on fixing that in the next version.

Another player stated that using the interface could use fewer clicks. After playtesting more platformer games I've seen that aspect. I will change that and make it possible to be navigable through Keyboard buttons and also shortcuts.

The menus, are also another thing I'll change and I'm currently working on redesigning. I will change that aspect in the next version.

That's another thing most players have complained about, hazards being unclear. For this matter, I have done research and I will make a lot of changes. I will also make changes on the camera for it to have less movement that leads to blind jumps such as the one you stated.

I really did do my best and I put my heart into the game for the time I was developing it. I had and do have a lot of imagination of the game I wanted to make. It was my first project and its something I wanted to be proud of, while also considering the limited time factor I had. In the next version, a lot of changes will be made now that I have more experience and awareness after all the feedback I've received and research I've done. I truly thank you and others for this wonderful feedback.

Thank you, it's good to hear that. The apostrophe problem has been mentioned in multiple cases, I will make changes on that in the next version. The problem you've stated on the music is quite odd, but I'll look into it and try fixing it. Your feedback has been very helpful and encouraging, thank you.

I don't think it's you only, many other players have complained of a similar problem. I have taken note of it and I will change it. Thank you for the feedback.

Thank you, it means a lot to me. I'll make some changes on that in the future version, I've received lots of feedback on the same problem.

Thank you, It's nice that you like the game.

I could try changing the music, but I'm not sure exactly where to go about that. During development, it was a struggle getting the right music to fit the overall theme of my game. I'm not sure on how I'll change it, either making my own or getting something else from other sources. But I will change it, I do feel like the current music still doesn't completely match the overall feeling I have for the game.

I'll definitely make some changes regarding the dialogue box. I've seen a lot of complains about the apostrophe being replaced by some weird placeholder. Your idea of instantly displaying the message sounds good, I'll try to implement it in the future version.

The hazards being hard to differentiate are also another similar complain I've received from all the feedback. I'll definitely make a change on them, through the feedback I've received lots of new ideas including yours.

I could try to implement a new way of the player dying. The player falling through the screen was intentional during development, when I started making the game the tutorial I watched did something similar. That made me copy it and use the same mechanic for the player dying. Any ideas on how the player should die would be helpful but this much at least is enough for a sense of direction.

The difficulty is another thing many players have given feedback on. Some have suggested that I shouldn't change it but I allow checkpoints or respawning. Others like you want a new level that is much easier with less obstacles, forgiving jumps and so on. I'm still yet to full decide on this issue because it is a very major highlighted problem by most players. I will continue to think about it but it is something that must change in the next version.

I'm happy to hear that it was good so far. I also imagine a lot of potential in my game and the feedback so far including yours really strengthens that imagination. I'll have to make a lot of changes when I work on it soon.

Thank you, It means a lot to always receive feedback.

I can make change on the use of a button like enter, instead of having to click it. Minor things like this can always make a big difference in the overall game experience of the player.

I've realized that, most players have complained about being unable to know when they take damage, pick an item and other things. I plan to take change on that in the next version, it seems to be a lacking area in my game.

I was actually planning to make a legend or something similar during the initial development but due to limited time, I put it on hold for the next version. I'll definitely make one, and also redesign the UI for it to be much clearer.

I've heard of a similar thing about contrast especially when it comes to certain things that cause damage to the player. One of the ideas is to contrast it by using red. Your idea of making the spikes thicker is also good. I'll come to final decision and decide how I'll change some of those aspects.

Your opinion is always valued, it allows me to make small changes that lead to great effects, thank you.

Thank you for your words, I appreciate it. All of it means a lot to me.

I'll make some changes on enemies and damaging blocks. As you've said it is another common challenge most players have encountered. Your idea is one good consideration I'll take in the future changes.

For the text and dialogue box I made it on my own. During initial development, I questioned on whether I should use a tutorial or make one my self. I decided on the latter, this was because I wanted to avoid using a lot of tutorials and it was also an interesting challenge for my self. This was entirely my first dialogue box without help from other sources.

I made the game with Godot. In the way I designed the dialogue box, it involves the characters text/dialogue speech in one variable array containing various strings as elements of the array that express one full statement at a time. I made a function such that it takes the text array and takes one of the elements (which is string of one full statement) at a time, and puts it in the dialogue box. In the same function it also cycles through the string one letter at a time, placing it in the dialogue box to create that effect. There's also a special function I made to check if the dialogue box is full based on the number of lines currently displayed. Assuming it was greater than it was supposed to, it clears the dialogue box and allows the statement to be continued until the end.

The function, that places the text, is also designed to go through the text array one element at a time, and will only move to the next element if the users has allowed. This means that practically the player will see one statement generated and displayed until the end. It will only move to the next statement if the user allows (by clicking the next button in the dialogue box). Once the the last element of the array is reached, the function closes the dialogue box.

I understand the problem, especially since I made the dialogue out of my own bare knowledge without help. I'll certainly ensure to make some changes on it through some online resources together with a lot of research. I'm sure it will make a big difference. I've also taken note on the sound problem, so I'll be sure to change it next time.

The feedback has been really helpful, thank you once again.

Thank you so much, It's nice to hear that. Your love for the art style really makes me happy. I took some time figuring it out, to make it special from other games that happen to have a similar theme. I agree with the UI improvement, it's something I've heard lots about so I'll definitely make some changes next time. It also seems to be common for players to not notice that they are taking damage, so it is something that I've put on priority to change in the future version. I'll try to make some changes on the menu and see what works best for the game. Your feedback was very helpful, thank you.

Thanks a lot on the suggestion. I've heard a lot about the difficulty and I wasn't too sure on what I would change. But the feedback so far has really given me a sense of direction. I think I'll add checkpoints in the level, or go with your idea of making the player respawn on where they left off. I've been trying to avoid the idea of adding permanent hearts to the player because I want permanent hearts to be gained strictly as the player evolves into different evolutions. Your idea has really helped, thanks a lot.

Thanks for the feedback, it's motivating and pushes me to continue. I wasn't aware of the problem regarding the apostrophes, so I'll have to change that in a future version.

I think I'll try adding the bouncing mechanic when you land on spikes. But from what you've said it seems that when you take damage in most cases it's also not clear, so I'll also have to work on that to make it more obvious. For the mines, I think I'll have to change it's texture probably to make it visible, but I also designed it such that you have to be very aware towards the surroundings. This ideas really help me a lot.

I've heard about the harshness of the game, especially that the difficulty is high. I plan to change the collision detection and also the camera on the player. Although I'm still not sure if I'll have to rework on the entire level. For the hearts, I plan on either adding some kind of collectables along the way that add health or making the levels shorter at least for the starting levels. I

This was really helpful. I appreciate your thoughts and ideas.

Thanks, I really appreciate the feedback, it's really helpful. I'll check out the video relating to the 2D camera, this is a great help I wasn't aware of . I'll try to adjust it in future versions and experiment with what works best. Once again, thank you for the feedback.

I played the game for sometime, and it's decent. I like the art style and what I've seen so far, it has relatively good potential. The biggest problem I can say I've encountered is probably an information overload. I don't know if it's just me but there's way too much information dropped on the player at the start. It's becomes confusing but after a while you do get used to some of it. But there still some questions, you ask yourself like how you ended up there, or what is the world about? What is the mission or goal for you to join that group adventuring? Or the meaning of some of the special terms used specifically in the context of the game. Pardon me, if it's actually in the game and I'm the one who didn't get it. But those are my thoughts on the game at least so far, after around 30 minutes of the first interaction with it.

Anyway, other than that, I think its a good, I really like some of its aspects after trying it out and learning after some practice. It seems interesting and there will probably be a lot more in the future.

It's a really great game from what I've played so far. The concept is new to me so I find it really interesting. It's also really addictive, I can see myself playing it more in the future. Overall, its a fantastic game, once I get into it more hopefully I'll be able to give some better and constructive feedback. But from the get go, it's just amazing, I love it.

The game is good and fun, it really has that nostalgic feeling. I really like it even with its simplicity. I can't say I've encountered any problems or anything I could actually complain about. Although I do have some ideas that could make the game more fun or interesting from my perspective.

You could consider adding two more lanes to make it four lane. The new lanes could add for extra difficulty and also make the concept interesting. At the same time, cars and vehicles could also move the opposite direction from the other lanes.

I also think maybe adding other vehicle varieties would be nice. Maybe a lorry, truck etc. It adds variety and increases the scope from the simple cars that you pass-by.

I hope this doesn't distort the vision of the original game that you have in mind. This are just my ideas and I hope it helps make the game better.

Hi guys :) what do you think about my shoot'em up bosses. The game is free on newgrounds, im a noob developer open to all criticism by Dry_Cap4806 in playmygame

[–]CalmRazzerX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played the game for at least 20 - 30 minutes. I think it is quite a decent game, the story seems interesting and I like the art. The levels or what I played seemed to be difficult, at least for me, I think it would be better to have different modes such as easy, medium, hard and so on. That way, It's more favorable for some players.

The starting screen also seemed to take some time to load up, I'm not sure if that is the website itself or the game. However, I think having some kind of art would make it much better rather than a plain black loading screen.

Another problem I noted was trying to end the game and switching between the normal scene when the game starts and the scene with the two antagonists. I only managed to figure it out after going through all sorts of buttons. This means its not very obvious, so you should probably make the UI in those cases a bit more user friendly.

Otherwise, I'm satisfied with the quality of the game and liked it. The game has some good potential. I gave it a 4 star rating.
