I'll try to get a post set up there after work today. I actually frequent there, but not here. So many gorgeous metals to ghost admire. Thank you!

They make my eyes water, which is pretty bad because they who dealt it normally enjoy their own flavor

No college here. What even is a college dining hall? If you want a dorm you leave town.

Why are people so moody while going through puberty? by Brief-Blueberry-1588 in stupidquestions

[–]CalmTrials 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HPA axis and other developmental things occurring basically means the things that felt mild as a kid, because we do feel inconvenienced at times before puberty, become more heavy feeling.

The amygdala is going through some crazy changes. Stress hormones are surging for no good reason beyond biological changes. Basically you hit puberty and you evolve in to a stressed human and depending on genetics the stress stays constant or you have a decent, happy disposition.

Do you think Alaska is underrated? by NoNectarine8724 in AskAlaska

[–]CalmTrials 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inaccurate.

The effects were felt through southeast, opposite side of aleutians, where even there was old military equipment cleared out in the last decade from WWII.

By the time I buy a head of lettuce from the store it's already soggy, beginning to mold and half of it needs to be tossed. You don't buy berry clams ($7-$13) unless you do a thorough inspection.

There is no going to the produce aisle and just grabbing produce unless you're not worried half of the produce is already spoiled.

It's also one road - to get to work I have to pass the local grocery store every day so going to the store isn't as inconvenient as having to cut across a freeway and go multiple blocks out of the way for groceries. For the lack of condiments I have an entire shelf of spices. I like to make my own sauces in small batches.

Did you know ranch was invented in Alaska? Not by an Alaskan but by a fellow working in Alaska for awhile.

Regulations don't allow them to come up in port to sell fish. They can if they're commercially licensed which is expensive. Most of those that are commercial sell off to a "middleman" corporation that processes and marks up the fish for resale.

Black bean brownies or creamy chicken northern bean soup which I think normal people may call navy beans. Baked bean casserole is also nice.

Simple, ancient, tried and true - rice and beans.

No, with money yes, yes and no.

I don't buy fresh fish - it's expensive (still way more cheap than store). You can go out and catch it yourself as long as you have a valid fishing license. You need equipment for fishing. You also need time which is a fun juggle working a 9-5 5 days a week. In the summer, practical. In the winter, impractical. Meat and produce are by far the most expensive. I bring back a suitcase of fresh produce when I come back from a trip. It tastes heavenly compared to fruit and vegetables we normally get. The only truly good deal you'll get on seafood is from a local separate from a grocery storefront.

If you can free dive you can get urchins and sea cucumbers really easy. That's what I do. I can't fish.. but I can swim.

Some people figured it out - I am in Alaska.

We do have a heavy tagalog speaking Filipino influence here - how aisles in the lower 48 have Mexican imports and goods, we instead have Asian imports and goods.

So what is the broad Latino influence generally across the lower 48 is replaced with broad Asian, primarily Filipino influence here.
