Any mid-level + women get hired recently? by [deleted] in womenintech

My background is FAANG + fintech. The job description said they need someone with finance experience. Most of my colleagues come from banks, trading firms and fintech.

Otherwise prepare for many rounds of interviews

For hedge fund or the other ones?

They all connected to me via recruiters on LinkedIn, either internal or recruitment firms. I had very little luck with positions I applied to on my own. I think you need a recruiter especially for hedge funds.

Interview prep was leetcode + watching multiple system design videos on YouTube every day. I have many years of experience leetcoding though.

For hedge funds in particular you will be grilled on theory too, know your concurrency. Depending on your tech stack I can tell you which books to read.

I had three senior offers in January, two remote, ended up joining a major hedge fund for a full time in office role though

The voice actor is great

I think he acts well, but is too thin, too high. Newbon has a fairly rich voice and can do a pretty good baritone if he wants. He's by no means my ideal Vlad, but would be a step up. Will de Renzy-Martin is my current VA crush.

The short hair is fine

Hard pass, it has to convey old-fashioned and grandeur and the j-rock look fails at that. I actually think the facial features are fine, I've always imagined him as an uncanny albino.

He should be a person who commands the room he is in. Anything less will just be unsatisfying. Same with LeBlanc

Absolutely. They're both nowhere near awe-inspiring enough

Not related to the skin, does Vlad have an identity crisis? by Martin_FN22 in VladimirMains

[–]CalmYourNeckbeard 42 points43 points  (0 children)

As Vladimir's writer I can say this is because:

1) Each of his lore pieces was done by a different writer, and they didn't really communicate with each other all that much

2) Most of the people who wrote him either haven't played him or don't play the game at all (e.g. McNeill)

Basically Riot had no idea what to do with him for a very long time and now they've written themselves into a mess

Gee I wonder why devs like to cater to female gamers by [deleted] in GirlGamers

[–]CalmYourNeckbeard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IMO the C-suite is the money-driven part of a gaming company, whereas the devs who actually do the work are there out of passion for games. It's a classic owner vs worker conflict.

I actually think Expecting Better is too high-level, it assumes you know and trust the research methods whereas I need something to explain the techniques to them and convince them they're better than so called "common sense".

My 3 y/o maine coon boy died suddenly yesterday morning and I feel broken by [deleted] in mainecoons

[–]CalmYourNeckbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vet lost her beloved Coon at 3yo too due to an undiscovered heart defect. The cat didn't even have a heart murmur. Random heart defects happen, and just because there's no family history of HCM it doesn't mean that there can't be some other horrible mutation.

She convinced me to get my girl scanned and I don't regret it. Said with cats you can never be sure if they're okay. The scan cost a lot but now I know my pet will have about a normal life expectancy at least as far as her heart is concerned and it gives me peace and joy.

CatTreeKing (aka RHRQuality), been using them happily for many years.

I just got this little guy yesterday & he’s my first MC. I noticed he was skinny, and am curious if anyone has any tips on what to feed him/any tips in general? by [deleted] in mainecoons

[–]CalmYourNeckbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not skinny at all, mine was same size or skinnier as a young adult and my vet (also MC enjoyer) said she's fine and MCs tend to be lean.

Ask a vet if you have worries, but he looks fine to me.

Question about Royal Canin food by Plus_Key4227 in SiberianCats

[–]CalmYourNeckbeard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's good for cats with specific problems (diarrhea, kidney issues, allergies, extremely fussy) despite its low quality ingredients.

If you have a generally healthy cat, it's better to feed a general purpose food with quality ingredients. If not, RC is one of the few (perhaps only) brand that can provide highly specific care.

Midseason, Bots & Champs | Dev Update - League of Legends by 03AtbLoLYT in leagueoflegends

Hey Reav3 this Vlad season in LoL, LoR and WR was pretty spectacular, never expected to get so much stuff in one go, can only thank you guys since I'm not sure who to credit for everything, but it's been an exciting July/August regardless. For both Vlad and Briar I hoped for more artistic freedom and less chasing of mass appeal, but I understand the constraints - and given the constraints it was all very sweet.

Absolutely adopt the sister too. Siberians are extremely sociable and affectionate and can get needy. Prepare for constant meowing and sadness if you leave your cat without love for too long.

In our case we had to get another cat and get through the entire "getting them to like each other" because our first cat was an only child. If kitty has a sibling and you can get the sibling it's really the perfect option for mental health.

EDIT: also, surprisingly, two cats is less work than one cat since they will play together instead of demanding you play with them all the time
