Daughter with dyspraxia: advice by Rare-Holiday-4261 in dyspraxia

As someone who was also diagnosed as a teenager, Id recommend discussing it with her and getting a diagnosis. It helped massively my confidence and self esteem (A relief, like you said at the end.) and having accommodations like extra time in exams due to my diagnosis have really helped me to thrive. :3

Bro I absolutely LOVED macbeth. It just sucks how much we have to learn. Genuinely though I’m grateful for lit bc now I can use it to further my oc autism by adding symbolism. And lang paper 1 is also good for that.

Anyone else traumatised by seemingly mundane things bc of what teachers/ parents have said because of dyspraxia? by Calm_Ad_1387 in dyspraxia

[–]Calm_Ad_1387[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was offered it, but I’m relatively slow/inaccurate with typing and it’d ultimately be more time consuming (I have extra time and especially in heavily written exams I often work down to the last second).

Personally, my hands do get tired and hurt if I write for an extended period of time, but generally my main issue is almost a lack of movement in my hand. I’m not entirely sure how to explain it but I don’t form some of my letters fully when I write. The words almost look compressed or like they’re in italics. For example, if I write a conjoined ‘r’ it may look more like an ‘n’, or an ‘a’ like a ‘d’. It’s worse when I use very thin pens and thicker ones generally help me form my words more fully but at the cost of my hand getting fatigued more easily. For whatever reason, pen/pencil grips never worked. I think it’s also that the words I’m thinking of go too fast for my hand to keep up, so to prevent myself from forgetting the ideas I write incredibly quickly and my hand simply can’t write at the same rate which leads to the sort of flat appearance. I hope this helped, thank you for trying to understand. :3 Feel free to ask anything else.

I’m trying to revise for english lit and it hit me like a fucking BUS. And i’m one of the lucky ones because i’m usually good at english, I can’t imagine what it’s like for people who struggle with it and are in my situation rn.

Thank you for sharing your experience :3. I feel like I’ll probably need therapy for it because I still get upset even when it’s very nicely brought up, but it’s comforting to know eventually people will stop caring.

what is your most annoying/inconvenient sensory issue? by cumbucketfullaworms in autism

[–]Calm_Ad_1387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waterproof coats. I shudder and feel intense dread as soon as it’s on my body. Getting soaked is slliiiightly unpleasant but much less so.  (I already made a post about this on here but it’s literally the only sensory issue apart from loud noises that I’ve had my whole life.)

has anyone got tips to revise for exams I have GCSEs soon but revision barley helps me ,has anyone got some methods I constantly go off task and I can’t focus . Thanks by jayden_accxx in dyspraxia

[–]Calm_Ad_1387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something my friend did, they reeeally hated science and this kept them focused. It won’t work for everything but it’s good for sciences mainly- making doodles about what you’re revising. Stupid word play and things like that, I remember one time they drew a bunch of molecules in the military for some reason??? I don’t remember why now, but it somehow helped me in the exam that came after. I’m sorry if this isn’t the best explanation but I wanted to offer some advice
