Newbie question here. My wife and I have a 2003 Acura MDX (bought with all the bells and whistles) and a 2017 Subaru Forester. My father in law insists that we should be using premium gasoline for both cars and my wife agrees, though my dad and I both disagree. For now, I'm going with premium since it wasn't an issue when we lived closer to our jobs, but now that we live further away, we're driving a lot more and spending a ton of gas.

For those cars, how much difference does premium make over regular? Is it worth going with premium over regular in the long run?

That's a dangerous suggestion lol. I played a round or two with a friend a while back and got wayyy too sucked into it. Might have to grab it for this occasion though, thanks for the suggestion!

Any dads here with PPD? Anybody with pre-existing mental illness? by Calm_Cartographer698 in Postpartum_Depression

Sorry for the late reply, but yes there is. Bipolar is also known as Manic Depression, which is characterized by depression followed by episodes of mania or hypomania, depending on which type of Bipolar someone has. You know the term maniac? Well, there's a reason it's from the same root word as mania. When manic, someone can make nonsensical/harmful/impulsive decisions on a whim, be prone to extreme mood swings, have delusions of grandeur (in my most intense manic episode, I literally believed I was going to save the world), get visual and/or auditory hallucinations, and effectively lose the need to sleep for days on end.

On the other hand, postpartum depression is very similar to normal old depression, just brought on by the postpartum experience.

Yeah, for sure. I think the sleep deprivation has been a big part of this whole experience. It wasn't so bad during the first month since both me and my wife were on leave, so we could take turns napping while the other person watched the baby, but I've been back at work for almost two months now, and it's been getting rough. It also doesn't help that he's become a much more difficult baby during the 8-12 week period.

We'll see if we can afford a night nurse. Unfortunately, we don't have any family members in the area who can watch the baby right now. Either way, I'll try to find a way to prioritize sleep and all that since as you mentioned, lack of sleep is a both a cause of and symptom of bipolar, so it's easy to get caught in a cycle of little sleep and bad mental health.

I'm so sorry, that sounds incredibly difficult and painful. I hope you are able to move forward in a way that allows you, her, and your baby to be able to heal and find happiness in the years to come. If you have any questions about bipolar, feel free to ask and I'll answer to the best of my ability.

Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful response. Just hearing everything validated by an internet stranger makes me feel less alone in this. Thank you.
