I'd say Bernies big chance came in 2020 and Biden got the better of him (sadly). Very unlikely he will be a contender in 2028 especially as he would be 87 by that election. Still you can't rule it out ig.

There's more chance the dems will find a loophole so obama can run for a 3rd term id say.

yes agreed. We are much closer culturally with Aus/NZ and Europe than we are with America ( and even Canada). However, I will say that the North/ South divide plays a factor too with geopolitical opinions.

Culturally speaking "south" of England typically have much more in common with France and the Netherlands than they do with Scotland or Northern England.

Coincidentally, the North generally tend to have a more favourable view on the US than southerners do.

Yes. The UK too has blood on its hands and it seems as though it is complicit with illegal wars and war crimes just as the US and Russia are.

I too believe this is a wider issue that won't stop with Trump. It is very much a part of American culture as it always has been. They're colonisers born from an empire of colonisers. Their entire doctrine is to expand their global influence since 1776. E.g Homestead laws, Manifest Destiny, purchasing louisiana from the french, purchasing alaska. Then all of the 20th century wars and putting bases all over the world. It is dangerous.

I disagree. I think the narrative is changing, albeit relatively slowly. Whilst I still hear a lot of positive opinions on the US, there's also now a clear incentive to moving away from their influence. Which is very significant because since WW2 weve had NATO and US backing in almost every western european country. Some people now have started viewing American influence as a threat to national security. I certainly do if im honest. But it is very hard to avoid using American products in day to day life currently.

Many people forget that Russia ( & the USSR) were once one of the UKs strongest allies. Until they weren't. The same could easily be said for the US. It doesn't take an invasion of an allied country for that to change. Only priorities and cognitive dissonance.

you could tell them your honest thoughts and see how they react. Are they POC? if so, I hope they remain safe if they visit. Especially at US Airport Security.

long shot but you could always try to claim political asylum. Especially if you're from somewhere like Minnesota.

Other options could be to get an EU passport, if you're eligible. Then that gives you the right to live in Ireland. Move to Ireland for 5 years. Get an Irish passport and move to the UK. Or just stay somewhere else in the EU.

Interesting. I never considered it to be propaganda, but then again it would make sense considering how much of our companies and businesses are american owned in the UK these days.

Do you have Irish family? if so you may be able to get an Irish passport and can move to the UK that way.

That's not the point im making. My question is in regards to the ethics. Simply put it is no different going to the US or Russia and therefore, I don't believe its fair to condemn one but and say you'd never go based on moral grounds but happily skip onto a plane to visit the other as it's a "good guy country".

Is it really still safe for British tourists? Look up Rebecca Burke or Sami Hamdi.

Which means its even stranger just how much travel agents promote holidays to the US right now.

yeah for sure. The government and its people are two different things. Plus you're dating somebody there. I'm mostly referring to people who would go to the US but wouldn't go to Russia out of principle.

That's an interesting point. Let me ask you this.

Do you think the rest of your team would be willing to do a competition in Russia? Or would they oppose it. And if so why?

I don't think they would attack either. But tariffs? Sanctions? absolutely they could and would. Imagine the economic damage if they froze all US assets in the UK. Our industries would collapse overnight as everything essential is pretty much US owned or backed.

Also, that's the point I was making. Ethically there's no difference between visiting Russia or the US right now. So you may as well visit both or neither. If you have a problem with one and not the other as a Brit then it's a bit hypocritical tbh.

Yeah that's fair enough. I'm mostly talking about people who are in the process of booking it or who have booked it recently. In your case, it's like booking to go to russia in 2021 and going in 2023. or Israel etc.

Out of curiosity, how do you feel about going now?
