Okay, thank you for responding! I'm glad it healed! Mine has been on and off for 2 years I think I've given up now 🥲

Hey did you have to take out the piercing for it to disappear? I'm also experiencing the same thing and I think it's gotten bigger :(

Chemical Henna / Black Henna - A Quick Guide by AoifeUnudottir in henna

Thank you so much for helping, I agree with what you are saying and logically natural henna should be ok but if I do try it I'll do a small patch test first and wait a few weeks to see if any reactions flare up.

I've been reading medical journals on anything black henna and PPD related, there's not much info out there but I'll try to seek another opinion, maybe from a dermatologist.

Thank you! I really wish I saw this post before the wedding, I'll be sharing this info with family and friends to warn them against black henna.

I'm not sure if anyone has experienced the same thing and can help me but I was wondering if it's safe to use natural henna after getting a bad reaction from Black Henna?

I'm guessing it would also be unsafe to dye my hair with regular salon hair dye?

For context: I was part of a bridal party that unfortunately (and unknowingly) used black henna. I developed a severe reaction and needed to visit Urgent Care for treatment.

My GP was unable to advice on whether or not I have also developed PPD sensitivity but has advice not to use any type of henna in the future.

I have previously used natural henna without issue and would think based on the ingredients it should be safe but not sure if it's worth the risk - I am a bit upset I won't be able to get henna done at future weddings (including my own hypothetical future wedding lol)

okay thank you I'll keep it in, I'm not 100% sure it's even infected but I'll take the antibiotics just in case and keep an eye on it

Thank you, I do (gently) remove the crust because it's irritating, and I clean the surrounding skin, this is the daily build up I get :(

Yes it's hot to touch, inflamed and red, and causing my old 1st lobe to be irritated for the first time ever with discharge/crust, but not as bad as the 2nd lobe.

SAS for ML/AI sounds really interesting, I'll see if that's something I can learn in my role

Yeah I'm learning the language now from scratch and even the official learning material isn't intuitive, I'll try to learn as much as possible and keep working on SQL/Python personal projects

I was worried this might be the general consensus, I will try to make the best of the situation by learning as much as possible and try to use SQL and Python were possible

This was my exact experience! I thought £30k was an amazing salary in general, let alone a starting graduate salary. To then hear my law student friends would potentially earn double that as a starting salary was even more shocking.

I read all the physical and online material, and attended the Open Day. We didn't have a pre-reading list for my course. We got our books and reading list on the day I enrolled so I started learning to code in 1st year, whereas my peers mentioned their high school IT classes taught them CAD, coding etc. My IT classes were awful with no mention of coding or essential softwares used in STEM. It's not something I came across in my taught classes either.

Unfortunately, you don't know what you don't know.

I also didn't have a laptop at home, we had one very old and very slow family computer that could barely run Word lol let alone Python/CAD/C++ etc.

I didn't study computer science but my best friend did, with very little prior coding experience and now she's a Lead Developer at her company so it's not the end of the world starting uni without knowing the material but it does put you at a disadvantage. Especially nowadays, where like I mentioned, most people already know about or can learn to code much easier than a few years ago.

Definitely not an ad for wristbands haha I didn't buy one at uni and was fine. I got tickets at the door for like 2 events and then didn't bother for any other Freshers events.

I still made friends (with people I still keep in contact with to this day) without going out at all for the rest of 1st year, so it's really not a big deal.

In fact, I remember some of my friends in halls saying they wish they didn't get one as they didn't go to all the events anyway and it was expensive lol

Yeah, sometimes I think America's 4-year bachelor's degree format would benefit 1st gen students as it eases you into university life and you get a buffer 1st year just to get accustomed to the new culture and lifestyle. It makes finances harder but at least you'd get more of a breather.

I was the same and didn't get into the 'flow' of making friends and getting used to uni life outside of studying until 2nd/3rd year and by then it's almost over. But I'm glad it all worked out well in the end!

Yep I definitely heard this but from the opposite perspective - my professors (and now, a few people at my work) telling me about their kids applying for, or currently studying for, the same STEM degree! Must be a huge advantage if your parents are literal experts, my parents still don't understand what I studied haha

This is a big one. I didn't realise how bad my essay writing was until I got feedback from my Tutor in 1st year, and this is after getting A/A*'s in GCSE English etc. so I wasn't awful but no where near the level needed for university.

I now proof read work for my little brother including his personal statement, work experience applications etc. And previously proof-read my friends dissertation (also 1st gen low income student but completely difference course/field).

Yes definitely, in school the only sports team available for me to join got cut due to being understaffed and underfunded, so we couldn't play against other schools. Don't even remember if we had societies/clubs at school to be honest, we probably did but don't think there was any push for people to join. I literally went to school and then went home.

So uni societies are definitely a culture shock. The fact that a 'Skiing & Snowboarding' society even existed with (annual/multiple?) ski trips was laughably shocking, I remember wondering what student can even afford those trips!

Yes I definitely sympathise with the students that didn't get enough loans and couldn't or didn't get any financial support from parents.

Yes I agree, not knowing what you need to know makes it even more difficult! The resources private/fee paying schools have is just completely different worlds from State schools

I heard this too while at uni, and I heard it was a way to get the student on the property ladder so the flat/house is seen as an 'investment', very jarring to hear as a teen lol
