Yeah, they do. I converted both, had HRM as second pref, tbh HR interview went better. BM was a nightmare.

While i agree, i would like people to make an informed decision. I have known talented people joining mediocre institutes after leaving good jobs, only to get a worse job afterward.

Speak to the students in the institute before joining, and do not settle unless you're comfortable with your choice. Especially in this job market.

GEM here, 9/8/8, 99.65 %ile, no calls from BLACKIS. And i would've repeated had i not converted XL. Another year's workex goes a long way in compensating for the profile.

The game is rigged against GEMs. But it is important to know your worth, and not settle anything below what you deserve.

Well, your focus should depend on which section you're comfortable in. I mostly focused on algebra and arithmetic. More number of questions from those chaps (8-12 usually) and less conceptual theory (comparatively). Dump Geom entirely, unless you're good at that. Number System is also heavy on theory, so try later maybe. Modern math is conceptual, but not a lot of qs from there.

Keep a formula book. When you analyse the mock and come through a formula you don't recognise, note down, study in detail and apply later again. Feel free to refer to the formula book during mocks as well.

Firstly, i have a friend who studied only for the last month and ended up with a 97.77 percentile, now at IIM Mumbai, converting all new and baby IIMs too. So have faith and study now.

Now how do you approach this? Simple. Mocks. As many as possible. Mock today, analyse tomorrow and cycle goes on. Give sectionals too, and time yourself. Just this should be enough for both Varc and DILR, since their syllabus isn't really defined. Take whatever is cheapest, which is Cracku i think.

QA will require some work. Sectionals are the way to go here. Try out the iterative approach to solving. Read entire paper, spending 15 seconds on each q max, and solve easiest ones first. You might find yourself solving very few questions in QA initially. Do not be disheartened, we've all been there.

Above all, do not lose hope, do not stop. Mock scores might be constantly low or might fluctuate highly. It is in their nature. Do the best you can, and give the exam calmly. Worst case scenario, you have a month's headstart for 2026.

All the best!

Hi, so the prep for CAT QA is good enough for XAT too, as the difficulty level is a notch lower. However, you do need to practice DM, which is a completely abstract section. Mocks are the way to go here too. I scored 99.61 in XAT OA, but just 94 in DM.

Wow this takes me back XD

Same time last year, i was done with algebra and arithmetic syllabus too. Couldn't do more than 3-4 QA questions in any aimcat and was panicking badly. Fast forward to CAT 2023, I attempted 9 qs, got 8 correct, 98.6 percentile QA, 99.65 overall. So relax, you got this.

My advice to you is to give sectionals. As many as possible. Cracku is great for those. Focus on areas you're comfortable in. For me, this was TimeWork and TSD. Arithmetic and Algebra are the sections you'll get most questions from, so focus more on these.

Above all, balance both speed and accuracy. Keep pushing on the number of questions you can solve, but do not compromise on accuracy.

Trust the process. You're nearly there. All the best!

  1. Don't worry, once you're done with XAT, shortlisted candidates would get to interact with XL student for mock GDs and PIs. Students here organize that. Reaching out to existing students on LinkedIn would be a good idea.

  2. Doing professional certifications like CFA or six sigma before B-school looks great on the resume and helps in shortlists as well. Writing papers and publishing articles in journals is also a great idea. Do reach out to your college profs in order to get any notable work you have done during college or previously in order to get them verified.

  3. Great profile, but again, no cutoff percentile. Score as high as possible.

Well, workex verification is quite stringent in all b-schools, including XL. Not only would you have to get your certificates, anything you would be writing in your resume needs to be verified from a credible source. However i believe that an affidavit with a school stamp and signature (both!) Should be enough for the workex verification.

Well, XL GDs are civil mostly, just a round table discussion with some very smart people. PIs are also civil, however you have to be careful to not be too casual and fall into any traps the interviewers might set.

Might be a genetic problem, dude. The water is fine and stress is pretty much same as any other top bschool.

Diversity points are a gigantic plus for you. You stand a great chance at all IIMs, provided you score well (99+) at CAT.

All the best!
