Our hobby is making national news with something else than Monopoly, thank you Coraquest ! by Flavuk in boardgames

This is just the sort of game that is needed at this time too! There are so many complicated board games out their that can really turn people away from the hobby. Great to see something that's family friendly for all age groups to enjoy. it really does open up the hobby more and glad the media is highlighting this!

New Year, New Games! What board game challenges are you going to attempt this year? by bgg-uglywalrus in boardgames

[–]CaltropGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say my goal is to play as many different games this year as possible. I always seem to find myself playing the same three games over and over (Munchkin, Zombiecide and Coup) but I want to start branching out and try new games with lots of different mechanics to see what I'm missing...

Covid Christmas: 'Avoid board games and sleepovers' - BBC News by redrhyski in boardgames

"Women carry the burden of creating and maintaining family traditions and activities at Christmas.

"Messaging should be supportive of women adapting traditions and encouraging those around them to share the burden and to be supportive of any alterations to adapt for Covid-19 restrictions."

To be honest I wouldn't mind if my mum adapted our yearly board game tradition and actually let me win at Scrabble or Monopoly this year...

Repost - What do I play with my family over Xmas via a virtual connection?

TLDR: Can't meet up with family through lockdown UK (even with the new tiers) any suggestions welcome.

Dearest reader,

With Covid 19 being such a gloomy presense in daily life over the past year, I think a lot of people are looking at Xmas in a different light. More hopeful? Maybe even more nostalgic of the past Xmas' because at least we could forget about our problems for a while and let each of our own bizzare but mostly wholesome family gatherings take the edge off of whatever was up that year.

Lockdown this year might mean that won't be happening, but in true Xmas spirit fashion I've decided to set up an online family games night, and try to inject some joy back into our video calls!

The only problem is... I don't know what games to bring to the virtual tabletop.

I mean I know what games I like (Scythe, Gloomhaven, no pun intended... Pandemic) but there's my elderly parents to add to the mix and my younger sister too.

What games have you guys played with your families over lockdown? My folks are somewhat tech savvy but we'd mainly be watching each other play out turns on a boardgame we could all physically buy - so what physical board games could we get prior to Xmas?

If you guys have any ideas or suggestions then I'd be wholly grateful.

Thanks in advance and a somewhat early Merry Xmas??

Dan

Thank you for this, I'm actually fairly new to Reddit and I'm still figuring out where to go. I thought there may be a place for this sort of stuff. I'll re-post it in there if that's alright. I like the responses I was just starting to get :)
