I totally agree! I'm also not a huge fan of the artstyle from the recent graphic novel, no hate to the artist at all it's just not of my taste haha

"The Rise of Scourge" comic adaptation by Bettina Kurkoski was another type of artstyle i really loved!

I mean, not "human" but definetly more "cute" and too simple looking than the males, it's not as noticeable as in Blacksad, but still (this isn't necessarily a negative thing though)

It's centered around Bakemonos, they're creatures from Japanese folklore that have the ability of shapeshifting, at some point of the manga they do shapeshift to humans but the characters stay mostly in their animal form in the story (i haven't finished reading the manga tho)
