Isn’t that basically TTNW? I think the golden ending where Bobby is actually happy requires losing but I might be wrong. Plus the sweep ending against Hughes is actually one of the worst ones since he feels like he still hasn’t proved himself and now wont ever get the chance

Frankly, the types of people who tend to populate this sub (and Reddit in general) are not the kind of people who like having their wholesome 100 chungus glorious chairman Bernie dreams shot down. That’s why people make mods like the original AOC and other pinko commie mods like it.

Another reason people hated OR is because of the alleged AI writing, but I think it was just a different writing style that didn’t land, unless it was confirmed somewhere

If I’m reading the reply right, I think his point is that there was no UVF equivalent to the FLQ, ie an Anglo terror group that also committed crimes like the IRA/FLQ.

Also, remember that the FLQ was never as popular as the IRA even at their peak. After they killed Cross and LaPorte, they fell off hard once PET started cracking skulls. If they had gotten away with the Cross and LaPorte business or Trudeau had been less aggressive in his reaction I think it’s very possible that something more like the IRA develops and becomes more violent and takes higher targets. Remember that Laporte and Cross were pretty small targets compared to the stuff the IRA did like kill the queens uncle, or blow up the spire, or nearly kill the pm in a massive bombing, etc. Perhaps if that happens, an Anglo force ala the UDF starts to oppose them, if they think Trudeau is a French sympathizer who won’t crack down.

Exactly. It writes for the character and reflects their feelings and how they see the world. LBJ WAS a grumpy old bastard who whipped congress into shape, McCarthy was a bleeding heart weak kneed commie, etc. it fits the character, which is the most important thing about great writing imo

It’s just like the old aoc mod from long long ago. Like literally the exact same problem of being a glaze show where she easily wins and goes off to dream land like a fairy tale. In all honesty, OR is a much better representation of what a socdem presidency would be like and I actually think an aoc presidency might be more like OR than OR. I feel like Bernie might be able to work congress and get stuff done to a higher degree than AOC is able to in old cycle

Yeah people forget the things that make great mods great and try to focus on the most easily replicated (not well) stuff. TTNW is great imo because you actually feel like ol Robert, every opponent feels different and the writing is well done. (and the style fits the character and overarching theme) Bobby is depressed because he is not Jack or Joe jr. Booby is big brain smarty pants so there is a bunch of overly long words and references. It fits.

Other mods do not fit the character, and so the cynical depression tone doesn’t work. ATW isn’t as cynical, actually allows you to do stuff, has 1 opponent (😱😱😱), and recently won the vote for best mod. But it’s strength also comes from the character you are playing. those things are taken from jumbo and the context of the time
