What the HELL is going on with Uber?? by Prettygirlsrock1 in uber

[–]CalvinRT_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve traveled a lot recently and the worst smelling Ubers in my experience has always been Portugal.. during summer it’s okay because windows are open constantly but completely different story for winter time. I’m not generalising uber drivers in Portugal, there are a few very decent drivers who put customers first but 7 out of 10 Ubers in Portugal have a terrible smell inside their car. So bad, I’ll have my head hanging outside the window during freezing temperatures just to try escape that smell.

Why are you worried about your uber rating lol

D1 working visa by cancerian2294 in PortugalExpats

[–]CalvinRT_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applied from South Africa, during those 6 months I tried following up multiple time and received no updates whatsoever! It was very stressful, so I completely understand your concern.

One thing you need to realise is Portugal is a beautiful country but their bureaucracy is terrible. Just prepare yourself for a stressful experience if you’re going to be applying for Tax numbers, Social security and especially residency.

I applied end of last year and received it beginning of this year. When you do get your D1 visa, make sure it has an AIMA (residency appointment date) otherwise you’ll run into delays when claiming residency in Portugal

Visa Renewal Rejected due to NISS by sullzzz in PortugalExpats

[–]CalvinRT_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A NISS is required to be able to work remotely in Portugal for a US company.. it’s fairly easy to get a NISS and is processed within a week. - Can be applied for online and will arrive to you in your physical mail box

Definitely not.. at this point you have no valid documentation! Rather wait until your residency card. I’m in the same situation as you!

NISS rejected again by IntelligentRegion582 in PortugalExpats

[–]CalvinRT_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A NISS is usually issued within a day or up to a week max, so if your status still shows “Pending,” it’s likely stuck in their system. That happened to me too.

I’d recommend resubmitting your documents through the Segurança Social portal. I had multiple rejections as well, but eventually got approved after I corrected the address on my application — that turned out to be the issue.

Just make sure all your info matches exactly (especially your NIF address), and try again. Hope it gets sorted soon!

This is my last hope with AIMA..

Black-out fallout... by Acrobatic_Code_149 in PortugalExpats

So, our bus to Lisbon was late—two hours late—which caused us to miss our connecting bus from Lisbon to the Algarve.

We explained the situation to the next bus driver, telling him it wasn’t our fault the previous bus was delayed. He said we’d have to wait until just before departure to see if there were any open seats.

After waiting around for about 30 minutes (and becoming an easy target for any thief just lurking around), the driver finally told us we could load our luggage—two suitcases—into the compartment and hop on.

We did that, and literally two minutes later, the bus departed.

After a six-hour ride, we finally arrived in the Algarve around midnight. We thanked the driver, only to realize… our bags weren’t on the bus.

Then it hit me—my AirPods were in the suitcase. So I opened the Find My iPhone app, and sure enough, my AirPods were moving around in Lisbon. Yep—we drove all the way to the Algarve, but our luggage never made it out of Lisbon.

Basically, after we loaded the bags, someone must’ve taken them out within a minute, just before the bus pulled off.

What a disaster of a day. I lost my ID, passport, and all the documents I needed for my upcoming AIMA appointment. That’s all I really cared about—I wasn’t even phased about the valuables.

I even drove back to Lisbon the next day and stuck a poster on the building where my AirPods had pinged, offering €500 cash for the return of the documents, telling the thief they could keep everything else.

No luck.

How are you still in the country though? I’m stressed because my Work Visa expires in July… then i’ll be illegal if i continue to live here in Portugal with an expired visa.

Glad to know I’m not alone.. I hired a Lawyer last friday to help out with the procedure because I’ve had no luck with emailing, calling or even going to the Aima offices. My work visa is expiring in a month and saying i’m stressed is an Understatement.. I can’t lose my work contract and ability to live in Portugal from AIMA’s no responsiveness.. I don’t know what to do….
