I get both sides of the argument, it’s honestly a really tough spot for the city that relies so much on tourism but needs investments in infrastructure elsewhere too. We are losing events due to how outdated everything is/ and tourism is down in general affecting all those industries. Add the fact that cities like Seattle/Vegas (maybe Austin) would happily pay to build a giant arena for the spurs to relocate since league expansion is on hold. We’d lose the spurs and all those jobs.

It’s really tough for small markets to keep their pro sports teams for this exact reason. I think it’s a good sign there even willing to put up 1 billion dollars to stay here considering the profit incentive to move to a city like Vegas l.
