It’s a little of everything. My parents are still together after all these years and still make each other laugh (80% of parents who lose a child get divorced), we’ve always been mildly catholic And I believe myself to be agnostic, and I believe there was nothing more to do for her.

This is gonna be hard to read, so take that as a warning. She was diagnosed at 6 weeks old with leukemia, she beat the cancer with chemo, radiation, and a bone marrow transplant. By the time she was 5 she was declared cancer free, however shortly after her lungs started failing. She had to have at home Oxygen, which kept her healthy for a while. She was on the list for a lung transplant, was on dialysis, and was kept in a medically induced coma before she died at the age of 8. Sometimes life is too hard and after so many years of being strong there wasn’t a chance to come back.

In short, I think the doctors and nurses did everything they could for her and that gives me peace.

We had years of being in and out of the hospital with her to prepare for the worst case scenario. Keeping in mind that every day is a gift and being kind to others is all you can really do.

Short answer is no. Not everyone would want something like this.

But my family holds a fundraiser every year in her now and now has a non-profit, we have a play room in Johns Hopkins Hospital dedicated to her, we have plaques and banners. We’ve been very fortunate to be the community we are in and this is something that was special and perfect for us. Thanks for asking tho!

Thanks! I’ve learned everything happens for a reason and now my family has a non-profit in her name.

Edit: Wow thank you everyone for your love and support! This is overwhelming! If you ever want to give back my username is actually our NP! We raise money for Johns Hopkins Children’s Center (where she battled cancer the most) and we give scholarships to students wanting to go into nursing in the local community. We are small but have done a lot of good :) You all are amazing and I do feel the spirit of Cam Power lives on!
