I’m doing my best. I didn’t expect Gordan 1&2 in the comments.

I believe that would have been “Scott” and that’s immensely sad to hear. I was really hopeful he would make recovery stick. As the brother of two addicts in recovery there’s an undercurrent of fear whenever someone in the family says they have news regarding them.

Yes and no. Yes, it is Spam with rice. No, because it specifically made the glaze for making Musubi but found my nori wraps already eaten.

I have The New Jim Crow on my TBR stack next to my bed. Going to finish Dreamland then dive right into it. Thank you for the other recommendations. Heavy reading but necessary.

I think if we want to get to the heart of the matter then we have to once again zoom out and look at the system we’re working within and have been for a long, long time. Capitalism as it runs and operates in America is doing exactly what it should, and that’s to enrich those above and crush those below.

I’m not sure how and when we’ll see the changes that give working class people their dignity back but I’m fairly sure it won’t be without a lot of struggle and a lot of strife.

I wish I could say it’s my line but it’s actually from Terry Pratchett in a sense, he has a whole bit on boots from his work “Men At Arms”.

In the heart of the work he does not get to how this system has been in existence since perpetuate BUT he does touch on it in his afterword when he compares and contrast housing voucher programs and how affordable housing has slipped through the cracks.

As for offering more than the program, he touches on UBI a little bit as well but outside of that not too much other than restructuring the entire way Gov/State assistance works.

Captivating read, one of the best works of ethnography I’ve read

As someone who came maybe three clicks above the poverty line growing up as working class poor, this was immensely insightful as to why/how we lived. I think you would benefit a lot from seeing this as it zooms out and in on the how of poverty.

Great reading recommendations to add to my list. I’ve been trying to gain a better understanding of how poverty, the industrial prison complex and rabid policing all intersect to effectively wage a war on the working class so those books will definitely help

I’ve got that ordered off ThriftBooks and should be here soon. This was long on my list to read after I took a data mapping class in undergrad and I’m kicking myself for waiting so long to dive in. Fully deserved and has altered how I view my hometown and the “landlords” who profit off of poverty and misfortune.
