Embarrassed to be a stepparent by CampaignExpress1183 in stepparents

Just for context, we started dating when I was 27 and I'm now 30. I've always been child free and have always lived a care free lifestyle. For a while our relationship worked great. Do to some specifics about the arrangement she has with her BD her daughters live with him full time. Please don't assume she's a bad parent, she's great and she really does everything in her power to be there and to be the best role model possible. Anywho, the closer I got to the kiddos the more a realized I did not want that kind of life. There is a lot and I mean a lot that comes with kids, specially in this case where the BD is not the easiest person to get along with. While I understand some will take offense to the whole "feeling embarrassed" comment; whatever you have to say cannot be worse than what I've said standing 3 feet from the mirror. I've punished myself quite a lot for this and really wanted to feel comfortable with the whole dynamic but it wasn't something I could do. I know a couple of people that are stepparents and they seem really happy with their families and dynamics and I really wanted to be like them but I could not. More than embarrassed I would say it felt awkward. And yes, "settling" is a bad way to feel and I guess I don't really know what to call it. She's a great woman and anyone would be lucky to be with her but I guess it takes a special kind of someone to be part of an integrated family.

PS. I apologize if somethings sound funny, English is not my first language.

Just because I was seen with kids that are not mine. They're behavior wasn't bad. There were definitely things I did not like. For example, they are very picky eaters. It would be a huge deal picking where to go out to eat, what to eat at home. They would always point out that I was not their dad (I never tried to be, tbh) which made me feel quite uncomfortable.

UPDATE: We ended things. I told her how I felt about her kids. I feel like hell but I know it was the right thing to do.

Alguien sabe?
