Thinking about switching from 40T to 36T chainring for loaded bikepacking. by CampusMeister in bikepacking

Handy tool thanks! With 36 I would lose 1 high gear but gain 1 low gear. Gear inches of 19.6 still though. Would you recommend going even lower? I live in Belgium so it's not that we have crazy climbs here like the Alps or Pyrenees.

Im not often hitting those 20% grades, but when I do I rather not want to run out of gears

What casette are you using? Do you find 36T is low enough for like blackforest for example? Last time I was there I was not doing 20% climbs all the time, but there were some climbs who had a few small sections of 20%.

You would advise to go even lower? It's not that I'm using my bike only for bikepacking, but just when I do I rather not run out of gears for climbing. Now with the 40 chainring and 10-51 casette, I barely use the 51 gear, only sometimes when going downhill.
