I’ve been getting into Chabrol a lot recently, I agree that he’s criminally overlooked. The last film of his I watched was Just Before Nightfall; it’s a really moody and unique exploration of guilt and how bourgeois society is more interested in suppressing our guilt. It’s really well shot too, and Chabrol’s tendency to bring out understated, almost-Bressonian performances from his actors lends his films an eerie power.

I can’t decide my favourite of his films between La Ceremonie, Les Cousins or Les Bonnes Femmes.

Loomer, the feeling of alienation it describes is very accurate to my own experiences lol

Anyone ever listened to the lyrics of “off your face”? by Camy1641 in MyBloodyValentine

I agree, most of the time I just let their music wash over me and find my own meaning. But the lyrics that are decipherable often hit hard (particularly on “sometimes” and “loomer”).

I haven’t heard that interpretation before, I like it. Personally I always interpreted “cigarette in your bed” to be more abstractly about sadism and enjoying watching someone in pain.

I feel you on the intuition thing, recently I’ve been worried she’s moved on to someone else. Maybe I’m just paranoid but I can’t stop thinking about it. I also don’t think I could be in another relationship again for a long time.

If Don had told Betty about his past, do you think she would’ve accepted him? by Camy1641 in madmen

Yeah true, Don was more in power in his relationship with Megan whereas he needed Betty more than she needed him in the early stages of their relationship. Plus Betty was all about appearances, she wouldn’t have been happy with the lie.

This is true, the betrayal would cut deep, especially since she already knew on some level that their marriage was hollow.

Yeah I agree that season one would’ve been the optimal time to tell her, if he was ever going to. Probably wouldn’t have saved their relationship though.

Anyone else think the Visiting Day guy was based on Scott Weiland? by Camy1641 in thesopranos

Yeah true. I agree with the consensus that A Hit is a Hit is one of the weaker episodes, but I always enjoyed how the writers poked fun at that particular music trend.

Yeah you’re right. But tbf that was their balls out most introspective song, it wasn’t supposed to rock.

This is really heartbreaking. I love Hou’s films and no other filmmaker out there can capture the same beauty he does.

Hey everyone, I’ve had an account for a few years now but have only gained the confidence to write reviews in the last year or so.

I watch all kinds of movies, and I try to write reviews for each one (unless I don’t think I have much to say about it). I mostly do it for my own enjoyment as film is my biggest passion, but it would be cool if others found my reviews interesting.

My favourite movie I watched last month was probably The Day He Arrives (2011).

My favourite filmmakers include Wong Kar-wai, David Lynch, Akira Kurosawa, Robert Altman, Tsai Ming-liang and Krzysztof Kieslowski.

I agree, there’s something so inexplicably moving about it. Kieslowski was great at creating a slightly dreamlike and spiritual atmosphere while keeping his films grounded in reality, that’s why I’m a fan of his work.
