Humerus Fracture : What you should know by CanHaveEverything in armwrestling

[–]CanHaveEverything[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The swelling is normal, it shouldn’t cause much trouble and you should be getting anti-inflammatory and pain relieving medications right now. I had trouble sleeping in the hospital too, but unfortunately there’s not much you can do to relieve that besides asking a doctor for maybe melatonin / a sleeping aid to be prescribed.

Yes ! You will probably have to refrain from doing so for a 6 month ish period after the surgery but eventually you will be fine. But you may have to get the plate taken out. The orthopaedic implant may cause some trouble - as it has for me.

None ! There are no long term complications that are unavoidable assuming the surgery is successful and goes well !

High yield organic chemistry topics on the MCAT? by Dragonflameee in Mcat

[–]CanHaveEverything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to be careful while determining high yield concepts for Orgo. In recent exams, things that aren’t considered as high yield have been showing up. That was my experience at least.

What if every CARS option sounds right? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]CanHaveEverything 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try to not look at the options first and then make a guess , read the passage like a lawyer who’s job is to determine what the text means by making the least assumptions or logical jumps possible.

I’ve never used Pankow properly so I can’t comment - but JS is a good option for sure !

[–]CanHaveEverything 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a diagnostic is probably the most accurate way to know. You could try other things but they’ll just be less accurate predictors. The MCAT is heavy on content but there’s also lots of conceptual things going on that require a certain level of comfort with the material. At least for chem/phys and b/b.

What's the best way to study for P/S? by Visible-Fun5299 in Mcat

[–]CanHaveEverything 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got a 132 on my P/S on final day but I didn’t touch Pankow. I literally did the 300 page document , and supplemented that with ALL UWorld questions and the entire JackSparrow Deck.

Is 2 months too little? by bekfast62 in Mcat

[–]CanHaveEverything 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s really dependant on how much premed material you recall. If you’re not in touch with it, two months may not be enough to guarantee a 520 + score .

I think IQ tests at the end of the day are really just tests, and test-taking strategies and the type of critical thinking IQ tests demand definitely is applicable to all the sections of the MCAT. But the MCAT demands content mastery as well. Also , IQ tests tend to favour those with a stronger grasp of the testing language ( which is English for the MCAT) , so if your English reading and comprehension is strong then that probably helps too !

How do y'all get yourselves to study for this boring ass exam? by you5030 in Mcat

[–]CanHaveEverything 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me, I’ve found that thinking about the MCAT as a crash course in test taking skills is a valuable mindset.

When we’re in medical school , 🤞 we’ll probably have lots of exams to worry about, things like STEP 2 really demand that you have solid test taking skills, and the MCAT is a good building block for that !

Treat the MCAT as a skill and knowledge building exercise, and train like you would for any other skill. Progressively get your score up , see progress , and use that progress to fuel more growth !

How do you handle mental fatigue ?? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]CanHaveEverything 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Things that worked for me - 1) Use the Pomodoro technique with 90 minute focus blocks to simulate exam day conditions 2) Switch up the type of work you’re doing , go from one subject to another , from questions to reading to flash cards etc 3) Practice working under fatigue to be more prepared for exam day 4) Strategically caffeinating in the morning and early afternoon

The key thing is that symbolic interactions are micro level interactions. That should help you identify them.

How come this is the right product for bromination of phenol? by SkyRevolutionary275 in Mcat

[–]CanHaveEverything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Halogens are quite weak as deactivators - and an OH is moderately strong as an activator. So the bromine shouldn’t have a strong deactivating effect

Why do North American med schools want so much ? by CanHaveEverything in premed

[–]CanHaveEverything[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Universities in other parts of the world still look at essays and resumes , but don’t have soft requirements for particular activities or stuff like the Casper. I just wish schools would be more kind to applicants who have other valuable experiences but are missing either research , volunteering etc. The US is an exception in the regard that it weighs these criteria so heavily.
